If Quebecor buys the Habs and try to integrate them to their media fast food services, you can kiss goodbye to all the big UFAs in the near future. Only a madman would be willing to sacrifice that level of privacy for millions he can get elsewhere.

Star Academy singers would have to sing the anthems for 3 years with a 40% discount (going to madame Péladeau-Julie Sneider)

Just guessing here, but because Liverpool can make more money then Canadiens?

Liverpool can make more money than the Canadiens, but Gillette and Hicks have turned down offers of 450M pounds and 500M pounds over the last 2 years. Their 300M or so pound loan to buy Liverpool is up in June and they have no liquid cash to pay the banks. They've already had a 6 month extension that started in January. Unless they get a bank to back them up, they'll have no choice but to sell for peanuts, unless they can find buyers for some percentage of their other assets such as the Habs for Gillette and the Stars for Hicks, in order to pay back that loan. Both Gillette and Hicks are in trouble - they should have taken the offers they had even up to last summer. Now they've screwed their portfolios.

Quebecor wouldn't get finance backing or NHL approval for ownership because their printing and newspaper industry is sinking fast ever quarter for the past couple of years.

The NHL wants solid money coming into the fold, they would probably love to have Celine and Rene as owners because of the Star status alone.

One owner is best, group ownership or ownership with a board is not a good thing.

I can see the posts now;
"The players were distracted by rumours of the imminent sale of the team."

like if they ever wanted to come here in the first place, the worst that can happen is the status quo and that is that everyone doesnt come here.

I could've written that article without proving anything. Oh, I can't believe they didn't put RIM in that list

If Quebecor buys it, it will be to move the TV games to a new channel (after the end of the RDS contract). Like Leafs TV. Their goal? Force people to get the cable signal.

One good reason is the fans in fact. They are the ones listening to the TV/radio shows, they are the ones writing on hockey boards about the team, and they are the ones TRACKING THE AIRPLANE of the team or of one player...
