  • The Canes have a point in each of their past eight road games (5-0-1-2) and in 11 of their past 14 games.
  • The Hurricanes have scored four power-play goals in the past 10 games, going 4-for-42.
  • This will be Rod Brind'Amour's 1,100th NHL game.
  • Carolina has not lost in Chicago since April 3, 1999.

as i mentioned in the other thread, the proverbial "four-point swing" is in effect tonight. we cant afford to take these points away from a team we are directly fighting in our race to the top!
seriously though, maybe we should invite the 6 or so hawks fans over to join the 6 or so of us? maybe we'll have a full thread . misery loves company.

Should be a good game tonight. The Hawks have alot of good young players like Ruutu & Bell (or am I thinking Calder?) I haven't seen much of. Young guns v. young guns.

Calder is out for a year. Broke his leg.

I have Staal in a keeper league for FHL. I hope he becomes my 2nd line franchise center in a few years. Hope he gets a hat trick tonight cause i want the Hawks to finish as low a possible.

I'm sayin 5-4 Canes. I know the canes don't score too often but they will be shooting on an AHL goaltender and play against a defence led by the Defensive Stalwart, Bryan Berard.

Ruutu gets a few more points too.

6-3 hawks. Arnason with the hat trick on Green Hat Day

last year on this day, Eric Daze and Steve Sullivan both got a hat trick. so many green hats on the ice...

maybe they WERE just shoppping him! i think the game should have a pretty quick pace to it - both teams with a lot of young legs. i dont see it being a boring defensive one. 4-4 tie - neither team loses and neither team loses too much ground to the rangers .

calder is my favorite young scrappy forward - i think hes gonna be a stud. we'll be matching your ahl goalie with half an ahl team! zigomanis has impressed me so far - not bad for playing with boulerice, zigo made him look like a sniper a couple of games ago.

It looks like Zigomanis has turned a page in his development. Odd how the young players have stepped up and played with a bit more confidence. Maybe someone within the organization have challenged them all. I wish Brendl was injured at the moment. This team might be heading towards a new era.

I'm want to say something about something evidently everyone missed:

http://offthepost.net/viewtopic.php?t=6784

Honestly, he's a RFA. Does he think someone is going to sign him? There would have to be a sign & trade. Still, I don't think he's going anywhere. It's called "Foot In Mouth" Disease, and O'Neill does this all the time now.

Time for the Canes to take the high road.

EDIT: I didn't realize Brendl & Murray are out for the rest of the season.

o certailny doesnt mind telling you whats on his mind. i saw that the other day - but im not really all that suprised - i think he was as upset that he couldnt get traded as much as anyone else. i think it would be awesome to keep him - but unless cole switches to left wing youve got williams and cole as the top 2 rw's on the team. if oneill can be traded for another piece like that in the right age group at another postion - i no longer mind. ive enjoyed watching this team the last few games more than i had all year - its the future and we might as well go for it. ive agreed that before that o would still be around when we turn the corner - but if he is a malcontent then its for the best to get someone else who fits with the plan. i like the present plan more than any of the others these last few years. trade o for a good young d, draft another good young player (probably a d) this summer, take a year off for ward to grow in the minors - get another good pick next year and we might have a team.

Sounds like Jeff O'Neill has a case of the hurt feelings. I'm not going to read too much into this yet, unless it continues to be an issue going into next season. Time usually has a way of healing these things and once Jeff gets excited about next season again i'm sure these problems will take care of themselves. I've never known Jeff to be a malcontent of any sort. He just tends to shoot his mouth off at times, like he did after the bag skate.

This too will pass.

O'Neill's name is on the gamesheet.

Wonder how long before it disappears.

I'm not saying we'd been a lock for the play-offs, but we sure as Hell would be in the hunt for the last spot. Not only would Irbe have contributed more than Storr's 2 ties, but Weeks could have been rested more and may have stolen a couple more games. I don't think it's crazy to say we'd have at least 10 more points.

Irbe makes a brutal play leading to a goal as I type this

Most importantly, the Franchise would not be sleeping with the enemy, which hurts me more than when he was traded to Pittsburgh in his prime. At least then I knew he was going to a better place.

I'd love to know the whole story behind Irbe's banishment.

Weak giveaway by Irbe to Ruutu

followed shortly thereafter by a nice second effort shot by Craig Adams. 1-1 after the first.

Only Craig Freakin' Adams can score that goal.

yeah, it's indeed a sad day when Craig Adams has to supply the teams best shooting in ANY period.

Me too, but I doubt that we will ever hear something close to a neutral, factual account from either JR or Irbe until he hangs 'em up. I think they both have egg on their faces about how it was handled.

I agree that it is painful to consider what could have been (it usually is) had Irbe gotten some chances this year in Storr's place. Don't really blame Jamie either, he never had to chance to get in game shape - but some of those games were winnable with a netminder who knows how to steal a few.
