Who should be the next owner?

Let's face it : The Habs will be sold. Radio-Canada reported it yesterday, and La Presse & RDS are confirming most of these informations today. Radio-Canada is supposed to bring fresh informations at 6pm, and we will probably know tomorrow who made an formal offer to buy the team and the Bell Center.

So among the groups or people who are reported to have an interest, who do you hope will buy the Canadiens?

La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec

Guy Laliberté (Cirque du Soleil)

Les Production Feeling (René Angelil)

Joey Saputo

Claridge (Stephen Bronfman)

Quebecor

Roustan Capital (who owns Bauer)

Groupe Aldo

Spectrum Equity (a 4 billions $ american private equity fund)

Molson family

Thibault-Messier-Savard et associés (Serge Savard)

Jim Balsilie

The fans (with 100$ shares)

An oil conglomerate from Dubai (who would ask for all players to be muslims)

who cares? Seriously, what the hell does it changes? Heck, as long as they're good owners (something nobody knows at this point), like Uncle George is, it's not even something we should have an opinion about.

So long, Koivu!

Me I voted for Guy Laliberté, so maybe there could be a circus during each intermission! (even if some would say that the Canadien season is already a circus...)

I say the Molson family, go back to our roots.

RIM owner Basille would be great and deep pockets from Cirque and Celine are good too....just afraid they (Cirque and Celine) would introduce crazy 3rd jerseys or weird theme nights!!

I voted for Saputo, but I also would have voted for some Oil guys from Dubai. Honestly, as long as they have deep pockets, a willingness to spend and dont want to be involved in hockey decisions, then im good.

Already I heard guys talking about bringing in a quebecer so that we can start bringing in quebec people to play. It will get out of hand if someone with this kind of thought buys the team.

I voted for Saputo for the same reason. Please, let's just build the best team possible, regardless of where the player is from.

I fear that if Saputo buys the team, our goaltending will be like a Swiss cheese...

Montreal has sold out on a consistant basis without the french canadian star or a load of them playin here. We have had teams with a lot of Quebecors and have failed to make the playoffs and have had empty seats as well.

The thing is sure it would be great to have the french canadian star, but at what cost and remember you need to pay the rest of your team in a cap era and need to have good prospects and picks to stay competitive.

Just bringing in that star and being non competitive won't make the French Media and fans stop complaining because they have their star.

Smart ownership will be needed from any new ownership be it Quebec or anywhere else. This is all based on if Gillet even sells and if it is approved by the NHL.

I would hope not the Molson's and I don't like the idea of Savard's group as I don't like the idea of a group running the team. Not saying it will be like the leafs, but when you have a lot of hands in the cookie jar it can get messy. I just want someone that will leave the hockey decisions to people in place and someone willing to spend to the max cap every year.

Guy Laliberté would be, by far, the worst.

I go for Savard, Balsilie or the Molson Family.

Oil conglomerate.

They'd move the team and build an awesome ship-arena with its own airport and all necessary facilities floating around the Persian gulf!

They'd go pick up glaciers in the Antarctic for the ice. Also who needs a crowd of 21000? 10 multi billionaire guys are much better, as experienced by the KHL

As much as I appreciate what they do for the soccer and in the community in general, and as much as I believe they would be great owners, I fear they could also become a distraction. They have often been rumored to have links with the mafia, and true or not, the medias will probably start digging and making it sound bigger than it is by speculating about it in every sport show, again and again. So it might not be a good idea for the Saputo family itself.

As long as they stay out of the hockey operations side of things it really doesn't matter.
