Katic reports to Bridgeport, along with Duncan (5-6, 150lbs) who's on an ATO.

So Sarnia fans, any glowing words about Katic? Any idea of what his NHL possibilities might be?

How about the UNDakota fans.... small, steady scorer in Duncan, even if his role the past two seasons hasn't been that of his Hobey Baker year. Any thoughts on his chances as a pro?

He has been very durable.

Duncan played in the BCHL for Salmon Arm, he then got a scholarship to North Dakota and has put up very good numbers. Another Nathan Gerbe, Brian Gionta type of player.

He's been the heart and soul of UND these past couple of years. His strength is his shot, very deceptive and you reallly have no idea where he is shooting it, great sniper. In his hobey baker year, he was on one of argueably UND's greatest lines ever. Jonathon Toews, TJ Oshie and himself. While I dont see him ever being as high of a point scorer with the likes of brian gionta, i do see him as a second line two-way goal scorer who probably will put up 45-60 points a year.

Duncan is only on a AHL tryout. Could earn a spot if he really impresses. He skated with bridgeports top line with Trevor Smith and Mike Iggulden yesterday in practice.

in EHM07, Katic was my first round, third overall choice in the 07 draft. Had unbelievable upside.

Completely busted. Ended up as a career AHL guy that retired at 35.

I remember Duncan when he was on Shattucks @ the Mac's tourney in Calgary. I believe he won MVP. Of course, that was like five years ago.

Katic has a good amount of upside- up to his draft year I believe he was hovering between 10-15 overall at one point before he dropped. He skates well, can shoot, has good vision, very responsible defensively.

What I worry about, he's "only" 5'11, which puts on the smaller side of dmen, and I believe has had surgery on both of his shoulders, and worry it may have an effect in regards to going into the corners. If he can build up and protect those shoulders, your looking at a smaller, puck moving dman who has some skills-the size and injuries are the only question marks IMO.

As someone who grew up watching the Sting, if Katic can gain a little bit of strength to his frame (like everyone needs to) he can be a very good fourth defender. Pretty good on his feet, great passes, but other than that, not overly physical, yet he does not shy away from it (kinda like a lame mans Ian White..of this year) but should be playing in the NHL in a few years.

If he can't stick in the Islanders organization, he probably should just give up and move to the Yukon.

Thanks for the input!

Most players making the jump from juniors need a certain amount of time to become "pros". Once they understand what it means and takes, the question then becomes if they can take that understanding and turn it into an NHL career?

If he can be an Ian White type, I'm sure the Isles would be pretty pleased with that 3rd round pick.

From what I've seen and gathered, the "tools" are there for Katic to perhaps have a better zenith as an NHLer than White has thus shown, but I'm no expert on either.
