In 5 years...

If you go back five years, to the 03/04 season, there are only three current flyers who played a game then: Gagne, Jones, and Nitty (Jones and Nitty played 5 and 3 games respectively). Since so much has happened since then, like the Lockout and the god awful 06/07 year, pick six current flyers you want on the team in five years.

I'd take Richards, Coburn, Parent, Hartnell, Giroux, and Carter.

Richards, Carter, Coburn, Giroux, Hartnell, and Sbisa (I'm counting him because he played a bunch of games this year and will be on the team next year.

I'm not convinced that Parent won't be more than a solid 2nd pairing shut down dman and not a guy who can shut down top players in the league.

to be fair, that was a very old team, clarke loaded up with the 1994 allstar team of amonte, JR, zhamnov, etc. During the 90's they were never a build with the draft kinda team, they always used their money to sign guys and trade what young talent the did have for vets. This team is very home grown and most of their star players are under 25, kimmo and danny will be on the downside by then. But most of the team will be just in their prime. Unless the cap totally shrinks, i don't see them loosing a ton of guys off the team.

Um, Timonen will be 39 in 5 years.

I'd probably go with with Elab's config. Has pretty much all of our most important young talents.

Giroux, Richards, Carter, Sbisa, Hartnell, Coburn

Gives you two very strong W/C pairings and a couple good D-men

Oh god CAN we? I'd absolutely lose control of all bodily functions if that happened... I'd die and go to heaven if we could find a way to bring back Daigle and Christ Gratton as well. OMG!!!!! Just thinking about it gets me so erotically excited.

Hell, why go back 5 years, just go back 17 months and we only have 6 players remaining from that roster (Gagne, Knuble, Jones, Nitty, Richards and Carter). If you are implying that we ALWAYS see such turnover and should expect as much to continue in the future wy not have us pick just 6 players from the active roster that we want on the starting roster for the 10/11 season.

We ONLY saw this much turnover (either from 06/07 or 03/04, whichever way you want to look at it) because 1) we had a god aweful season in 06/07 and changes HAD to be made and 2) a new GM took over and remade the team in the image HE wanted, not what the old GM had in mind.

I think Parent is here to stay for a long time. He's never gonna cost a lot, and he brings so much to our team.

Richards (obviously)
Giroux
Parent
Coburn
Carter (though I could see him getting traded if we are forced to)
Sbisa
Hartnell

Briere and Timonen will probably be here too, although I don't think either of them are as untradeable as people think.

Gagne I think unfortunately will sign elsewhere, since we will have to sign Carter and Giroux in the same offseason. He would have to take a major discount.

Am I the only one who will be highly depressed is Gags goes elsewhere? Maybe it's the Dawkins debacle in me, but I really miss great players retiring with the team they started with. Stupid sentimental sports fan am I. Where is Gagne in the Philly tenure list now?

I would be completely saddened. He was my neighbor before he got his new contract and we used to talk from time to time. He is a great player and a great person from what ive seen.

I believe either he or McNabb and Akers tops the list. All three started here in 1999.

I'm a bit suprised to see no JVR in here, although I suppose we haven't seen him yet so he could be a bust. I'm still pretty high on him... in 5 years I'd like

Giroux Richards Carter Coburn Parent Sbisa

HM: Hartnell, Marshall, BOURDON!

oh wait am I a hypocrite?
