Ek just gave the flyers the kiss of death. Does anyone know who will be carrying the game on TV tonight?

Please Matty...if you don't sign in Buffalo (which you probably won't)...please don't sign with Toronto/Philly/any other team I have to root against...

Chicago works fine, though

It wouldn't be as bad as some of the other teams, but I'd prefer the Islanders...

Hey! The Leafs need all the help we can get! Don't worry, we have a less than stellar prospect pool, we might not be competing for a playoff spot for years. I hope that's not the case though!

He's not eligible for bonuses since he's not on a ELC, not over 35, and hasn't spent over 100 days on LTIR this year.

Wrong. He can receive a signing bonus. Which is what he wants the bulk of the signing to come from.

From what I've read, he wants to go to an O6 team, and he wants to make anywhere from 3-4 mil per.

He's not a paid professional so I don't think that applies to him just like kids in juniors can sign after their season is over and play in the playoffs.

Umm, if he's signed AFTER 5 pm EST tomorrow or if he's NOT placed on the active roster (ie - he's assigned to the AHL for that day) then he doesn't count one red cent against the cap THIS year and the Fluers can sign him just perfect.

Looking at the CBA a signing bonus is averaged out over the length of the contract to determine cap hit.

so if he was going to get 2base and 1mil bonus over 2 years it would only be a 2.5 mil cap hit.

I meant next year. The Flyers have major cap issues, and signing 3-4 mil on an undrafted college player won't be the best way of cap management.

So I guess we can cross Chicago and Philly off the list.

His [Gilroy's] game has blossomed while at Boston University, and many teams are now interested in his services.

But, the Flyers might have the inside track.

I received an e-mail this morning from someone close to the Gilroy hoopla who has said that Gilroy's camp has quietly made it known that the Flyers are tops on his list.

Then you should have said that they SOULDN'T sign him, not that they CAN'T and therefor WON'T be signed by Philly. He certainly CAN be signed and he very well MAY be signed. We can worry about next year's cap later. At worst he won't cost more than Jones and Jones can always be sent to the AHL for the year and then it's a wash cap wise.

Rumors of our cap demise have been greatly over-exaggerated.

I like Gilroy but hate the fact that so much money can be offered to him.

Feels like he might end up wasting cap space for 3 years.

It will be interesting to see where Gilroy chooses to play. He certainly has his options. One story on TSN said 23 teams offered him a contract LAST YEAR.

I hope the Coyotes are in the running (although they are never mentioned in UFA rumours these days - so much for the allure of playing for Gretzky. They might have a better chance if they could tell prospective free agents Gretzky won't be coaching next year!). Gilroy could step right into the Coyote lineup. Possibly alongside Jovonovski. Or opposite a defensive stalwart like Kurt Sauer. Either way he could have a great opportunity to excel on a young team that SHOULD be on the verge of goodness.

He will probably sign with an East Coast team.

I feel ya there. At least with Bozak, Hanson, etc. there is a break in period in which the team can see if they're the real deal. With Gilroy it's going to be either Heaven or Hell.

Don't see how Chicago could offer him the money or playing time he'd be looking for.
