2009 Stanley Cup Playoff Discussion Thread

Well we already had the "who are you rooting for" thread. Who do you want to see utterly FAIL?

And do you want these teams to fail in humiliating first round exits or would you rather lap up their oh-so-bitter tears after heartbreaking Finals sweeps, watching in shame as a more worthy team raises the cup?

I look forward to the Canadiens having a very short lived playoff run. That will make me smile.

I'm torn on whether I want the Sharks to continue the trend of second round exits or whether I want to watch their fans get their hopes up only to get spanked by Boston or Washington or Jersey.

I will also be highly amused if Pittsburgh were to make it to the finals again and lose.

Obviously the Ducks should be out in 1 and anything more than that will upset me greatly.

So how bout it? Whose failure will you relish?

Sharks (Blake)
Ducks (Pronger)
Canadiens (93)
Flames (Cammalleri)

I hope for a Rangers vs. Blackhawks final as that would be great for hockey in the states.

In the east I'll be rooting against the Rangers, the Canadiens and probably the Penguins (although may have to root for Cowie a little).

In the West, I'll be rooting against the Sharks (I could swallow Roenick, and was actually kinda rooting for them, but Blake just puts it WAY over the top) and the Ducks. Probably Red Wings too. I'd hate root against some of my favorite players (like Marleau and Datsyuk), but what can you do.

The usual suspects for me. San Jose, Detroit, Anaslime, Boston... and Montreal? I'm not sure how that'll work out.

Sorta pulling for the Blues in the West; my buddy's favourite team and all. I'd like to see Carolina have some success, for Gleason.

I want to see a Washington-Pittsburgh tilt. I don't even care who wins, just to watch them go to town on each other.

I WANT TO SEE:

The birds eradicated.

The Chum swallowed and spit out.

the Canadiens trounced in the first round.

And of course the Rangers feeling mighty blue!

I can't believe I forgot to mention how much I want Luongo to flop his way to a 3.84 Playoff GAA.

The Ducks and the Canadiens are all I can ask for.

A beating, crushing sweep for both of them

They are the 8th seeds, should that be too much to ask for?

Ducks, Sharks, and Canucks.

In that order.

As long as they don't win, I can go into the offseason happy and excited.

Ducks, Sharks, and Habs mostly. Also, the Caps because I would hate to see a team win that got by on the idea that you don't have to play defense as long as you scored more goals than the other team. I'm hoping for a Philly - Cbus Final. But that's one hell of a long shot.

I can't remember a time when I didn't hate San Jose ... so yeah I hope they lose in the second round per usual.

The Sharks are playing the birds in the first round so one of them is going to be eliminated shortly.

Unfortunately its simply not possible to see them eliminate each other in the first round. But if it were, thats what I'd wish for.

So its chum vs quakers in the first round. As much as I dislike the ducks I hope they beat SJ just so they get to hear the "choke in the playoffs" for another year.

I don't have any hatred for the Sharks, really, especially considering that Nabokov is pretty much my model as a goalie myself (same number, trying to execute the same style...)

Just eliminate the ****ing Ducks

Game 7 goes into 10 overtimes and all the players drop dead from fatigue. That's a little extreme. Not impossible though.

Edit: I guess I went for the more literal definition of "eliminate"

I was thinking that like their planes clip in mid-air flying to one of the arenas after the first home ice advantage and both crashing... But that would work too.

Now would that be a near-miss or a near-hit?

Now that we see matchups I'm going to say I hope in the West:

- Ducks get swept (Rooting for the Sharks sucks, but I hope the Ducks get so embarrassed they are forced to go into the same full rebuild mode we have to suffer through. Nieds leaves, Pronger requests a trade, it turns out Beauchemin isn't actually any good. Getlaf whines and Perry disintegrates when he steps into sunlight. Sharks, overconfident and out of a groove have to face a spurning kick ass Jackets team and go for the all too well known but oh so sweet second round exit)

- Wings lose (how AWESOME would that be?!?!) - in 7 games though. Much more heartbreaking for the Joe. Gives Columbus the edge since they are young and can handle the load against San Jose in the next round. Columbus = team of destiny to atleast get to the WCF

- Knuckleheads lose in 5 (don't like the Blues much, but don't care enough to loathe them as I do the Sedins. I hope they cry)

- Flames lose in however many it takes (GO USA. 'nuff said there)
