This is as good a thread as any to turn into a generic playoff discussion thread for us, so here you go.

FWIW... the Stanley Cup Playoffs forum is now open, and there's always some terrific discussion threads in there prior to the start of the playoffs. The one on the officials alone is fascinating if you dig in to it and find the posts from a couple guys who have researched the hell out of all of the NHL officials.

That, I think it'd be a good one and those are the only two teams I can stand to root for in the playoffs.

Stanley Cup Playoff Picks

I don't post here often. But I read almost everyday. I work in an ice rink and we're doing a pool for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I want to share my picks and get some of your responses and arguments so I see every angle. So here are my picks and reasons.

East:

Bruins over Canadiens in 6 games-I believe it will be a good series I just don't see Carey Price > Tim Thomas

Penguins over Flyers in 5 Games- Penguins are going into the playoffs with a full head of steam. I'm also not high on the Flyers goaltending.

Devils over Canes in 7 Games- At first I had the Canes as my sleeper but Brodeur has to much experience. Canes will make it interesting.

Caps over Rangers in 6 Games- I just don't see Lundqvist standing on his head to stop Ovie, Green, Semin, and Backstrom.

West:

Sharks over Ducks in 5 Games- Sharks just have too much fire power and Nabokov will come up big.

Flames over Hawks in 7 Games- Kipper will be his old self and Iginla, Cammi, and Jokinen will be too much for the Hawks to handle

'Nucks over Blues in 6 Games- Luongo.

Wings over Blue Jackets in 6 Games- Mason and Nash might make it interesting but too much talent and experience with Daytsuk, Zetterberg, Frazen and the gang.

I'll post my second round picks after I get some feedback. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The thought of Rob Blake being bounced in the 1st round tickles me. There's no downside to that series. Either the Ducks lose (which is always enjoyable), or San Jose experiences their annual postseason meltdown early this season. Sweet.

how can anyone in their right mind even consider rooting for the Canadiens? that'd be like rooting for those damn Yankees.

Well, so far not so good.

Pitts won - yuck

Knuckleheads wons - bigger yuck

Jersey won - I'm ok with that

New York won - booooo.

Actually I don't hate the Rangers in general, but I do hate this incarnation of them. What a frickin boring team to watch. No Jagr, No Messier = No love for the Rangers. Though I do like Lundqvist a lot, so I wouldn't mind seeing him acheive some success. More important though is seeing a Washington-Boston or Philly-Boston ECF.

So for tonight:

Go Jackets!
Go B's!
Go Hawks!
and...

nope, can't do it. Don't know if I can even watch a Ducks/Sharks game. Usually I hate one team enough to root for the other, but I can't condone actively or passively rooting for either of these a-hole teams.

I have a funny feeling CHI will win the whole thing, with Huet getting the Conn Smythe.

If they do, it'll be with Khabibulin in net, not Huet.

I'm rooting for Chicago as well as Columbus. A Chicago/Pittsburgh final would be fantastic.

The wife has actually given consent to the 3-some if I can set it up...she did do it in a "yeah, sure, best of luck with that" with a to add, but I took it as voluntary consent nevertheless...

Truly.

Hey, so, on a note unrelated to muff, I will be in DC on Saturday and I am going to the Rangers v. Capitals game. Great seats and very reasonably priced. Anyone been to the Verizon Center? Any tips on parking, etc.? I will probably go on the Caps board to ask as well.

I have watched the Ducks vs. Sharks game

classic example of a team outplaying the other but getting nothing

this looks like a very winnable series for either side, which has bad implications for the Sharks

If the Sharks blow this series... I dunno what to say. They are a cursed franchise...
