I just watched him say that. He also said Gainey asked the media not to ask about Markov updates again until he's actually skating again which isn't the case right now. Not good news.
How does it go from Habsinsideout saying "Suggestions from Gainey that Markov could be on the ice early this week" to John Lu saying "Gainey says no Markov in Game 1, stop asking"
Weren't they listening to the same press conference after practice?
John Lu didn't translate well. Gainey said in French, ''Aujourd'hui, non", a répondu l'entraîneur Bob Gainey, lundi, quand on lui a demandé si Markov pouvait être de la partie à Boston, jeudi.
Meaning, if the game was tonight he wouldn't play, but we are still 3 days away.
Gainey said Lang is on track...if thats the case we could expect lang back in 2 weeks...if we last that long
I heard on CKAC that it would take him 10 to 12 weeks for a comeback. It's certainly far from 2 weeks.
I'm confident that we're gonna see Markov in this series. I'm sure he's going to play even if injured. Markov on one knee > than any other defenseman we have.

You misunderstood. Gainey said Lang on track recovery was for 12 weeks. It's been 10 weeks now so we could expect him back in a round 2 if we get there.
I don't trust Gainey to give us the correct info. Its a good thing imho if it gives us even a slight edge. The shock of seeing a healthy Markov in game one could give pause to the Bruins. It almost worked with Schneider.
TSN never quoted Bob Gainey when they said it. When it's a direct quote, it's hard to blame the source.

No, they were wrong once and they were citing sources who said doctors in Montreal had said he was out for the year. They had. Doctors in NY reversed that. Unless predicting the future is part of the equation, they did their job.
The only reason Markov plays is if he starts skating before Thursday or Bob Gainey is outright lying to the media.
Actually, nothing is confirmed yet.
From what I can understand, they're evaluating his case day by day.
Gainey said, if he had to say today if Markov would start in Boston, his answer would be No.
He then said that tomorrow might be different. He ended off by saying as long as he doesn't skate, he won't be close to a return.

Did anyone watch the video in question?
Gainey said no and not to ask again until he starts skating.
i don't think markov will play in game 1. i think gainey will evaluate how the team plays, and much like koivu last year ( who's a B's killer btw -20 pts in 15 playoff games vs ruins)
he'll then decide. if habs win game 1, there will be no rush...if we lose the 1st there might be an urgency to bring him back...saturday would be 2 full weeks.
didn't koivu only play in games 6 and 7 last year?
Gainey said no and not to ask again until he starts skating.
Yes I did and John Lu sums it up quickly.
But Gainey said during his PC :
"Aujourd'hui, non", rds.ca
Note the word, TODAY.
He then said ''Il doit d'abord recommencer à patiner avant qu'on envisage son retour. Quand vous le reverrez sur la glace, cela voudra dire qu'il se rapproche d'un retour"
In case you don't understand, he said he has to start by skating again and that will mean he's getting closer to a return.
That was in response to whether or not Markov's status would change by Thursday.
So, as of today, no he won't play and until we don't see him skate, it's useless to even think about a return.
That being said, we don't know if he's gonna try to skate tomorrow or in a week.
So like I said, No as of today, and we'll see how days go by.
