A Broad And Early Offseason Poll

Just a little research. Specify further if you feel like doing so.

Little bit of both.

We need better dmen on the blueline. IE a pp qb, and still a nasty SOB who can clear a crease.

Obviously we need some legit goalscorers.

No brainer...look at the stats. 6th in overall team defense, 28th in offense. 'Nuff said. Plus, we signed Gilroy and MDZ/Sangs/Sauer are getting closer. Offense or bust.

Goal scores. If we had a legit goal scorer, 35-40 guy, Henrik wouldve had 5-7 more wins and it takes pressure off our defense.

I think our offense needs the most improvement. The defense is fine for now. There will be a lot of young talent competing for spots, so the defense should be able to fill itself out if Mara isn't resigned. There isn't a lot of space to make improvements though, may have to wait out the next couple years of mediocricy until drury/gomez/reddens contracts expire before we can start fixing problems. With them still here it'll be very hard to "quick fix" any problems, which forces us to use what we already have in the system which may not be such a bad thing.

We have home grown upgrades on defense coming in the next 1-4 years. Offensively, the cupboard's bear. Upgrade the offense.

Hence the title. Just doing a little research to see where most fans sit. Plus I think most people dislike our defensemen, which I disagree with for half of them.

31-0-3. LMFAO.

Seriously though, we're talking one of the league's worst offenses.

Both.

Forwards
OUT
Drury
Naslund
Antropov
Voros
Orr

IN
Anisimov
Grachev
Gaborik

Defense
OUT
Redden
Rozsival
Mara OR Morris (keep which ever is cheaper)

IN
Del Zotto
Gilroy
Komisarek

I truly can't stand the veteran group on this team.

I PRAY we rid our selves of these contracts.

I want a young, fast, skilled, hard working, team with size. Not an overpaid bunch of lazy hacks with no intensity. Our veteran group is asinine.

IDK if DelZotto and Grachev will be ready. Naslund and Redden will be here for another year for sure. Otherwise interesting list.

DZ, Grachev, and Anisimov will definitely get a long look. I think Gilroy makes it.

And unfortunately, that is the reality about Naslund and Redden. But i sure wish we could get rid of them.

Improve the defense if you can. Then start on the offense.

Defense wins championships, I still believe that. The Ducks with Pronger and Nieds just showed us why!

No reason to really make a huge effort to improve the defense.
Staal can only get better with another season.
Girardi can't possibly have a worse season.
Hopefully Redden maintains his play as of late for the whole season next year which I think he will.

Because superstars in Selanne, and Getzlaf, with some 70 point effort from perry didn't help...

This is like asking if Scarlett Johansson should be topless or grow a Mara beard. The 2-1 loss was a microcosm of the season. Just not enough fire power to win.

None of the above. We need to fix our cap situation. If that means taking a step back next year, so be it.

Yeah, can definitely see this. We need a bit of room in the cap, we need to do our best to unload at least ONE of the big contracts, or maybe a couple of the medium ones.

In terms of defense, this team has a lot of young talent that is on the way up. So, I wouldn't invest anymore there and I'd be happy to unload Redden and/or Roszival and give a shot to one or two of our young up and coming dmen. Not sure management would be willing to go with that much inexperience on the back end, and it would require a good training camp from somebody like Sanguinetti or Del Zotto.

For forwards, I think that is where some investment has to be. We don't have a guy that on his own can put up 80 points, Gomer might be good for almost that, but he really requires a good goal scorer to do it. And it is never easy nor cheap to get a great offensive player in free agency. So, I don't know that we can expect to see any significant improvement in this area. Wish we had drafted Parise in 2003... wish Cherry was still with us.

Speaking of drafting, I would rather we take a long term approach, try to move up in teh draft and grab a player (preferably forward) that can become a great offensive player for us down the road. Schroeder, Kassian, Glennie... or Ryan Ellis on D and trade one of our other high end defensemen in a package for a forward with good offensive potential. Free agency has not been working for us lately, maybe focus on building through the draft this summer.

I know what you are saying but the Rangers secondary scoring is much better than theirs.

Offense, obviously the rangers were the second to lowest scoring team in the league. Not to mention dead last in the league in powerplay goals

I think you mean 3rd to lowest, but that's not much better.

I'd like a new GM who can put together a team in the modern/cap-era NHL.
