Did You Know?
  • This is the 8th time the Penguins have played an opponent in back-to-back seasons, Pittsburgh has won each of the last 5 rematches, going 5-2 all-time (Won: 2006-07/2007-08 Ottawa, 1999-00/2000-01 Washington, 1993-94/1995/1995-96 Washington, 1990-91/1991-92 NY Rangers Lost: 1978-79/1979-80 Boston, 1975-76/1976-77 Toronto).
  • The Penguins Stanley Cup drought sits at 17 years, last winning in 1992. Philadelphia's drought is now at 34 years, last winning in 1975.
  • Evgeni Malkin's Art Ross Trophy marks the 4th different Penguins player to win the Art Ross. In the awards history only Bryan Trottier has won the award while playing for another modern-day Atlantic Division foe. It marks the 13th time out of the last 21 seasons the award has been won by a Penguin.
  • Pittsburgh Penguins record over the last 24 games of the season: 18-3-3
  • Philadelphia Flyers record over the last 24 games of the season: 12-10-2
  • Chris Kunitz was the only Penguin not to participate in the game-day skate this morning, his wife was in labor. Kunitz is expected to play tonight. Congratulations to the Kunitz family as they welcomed their first baby boy into the world this morning.
  • Ryan Parent and Randy Jones will play for Philadelphia
  • Good old Mellon Arena...an unexplained fire alarm went off in the arena during the Penguins morning skate.
  • When Mike Richards *****es and moans its because he's a great leader. When Sidney Crosby does the same he's a whiny puss. They're both captains doing their job people, get over it.
  • Heading into the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs the Pittsburgh Penguins have 898 games of playoff experience spread throughout the roster and 4 rings (Craig Adams, Ruslan Fedotenko, Petr Sykora, Bill Guerin). Mathieu Garon is the only playoff virgin. Petr Sykora leads the way with 108 playoff games under his belt.
  • The Flyers have 412 games of playoff experience spread throughout their active roster and 1 ring (Mike Knuble). Daniel Carcillo, Claude Giroux, Darroll Powe, Jared Ross, and Luca Sbisa are all playoff virgins. Simon Gagne leads the way with 65 playoff games played.
  • In 56 career playoff games Hal Gill has 0 goals and 3 assists
  • Sidney Crosby's career stats against Philadelphia: 26 GP 20 G 26 A 46 PTS (1.77 PPG) 24 PIM (highs in G & PTS against any team), Playoffs: 5 GP 2 G 5 A 7 PTS (1.4 PPG) 4 PIM
  • Evgeni Malkin's career stats against Philadelphia: 21 GP 13 G 18 A 31 PTS (1.47 PPG) 26 PIM (all highs against any team except GP), Playoffs: 5 GP 3 G 2 A 5 PTS (1 PPG) 4 PIM
  • Penguins record againts Philadelphia past 3 seasons including playoffs: 19-8 Since lockout: 21-13-1
  • In 21 regular season games against the Penguins Scott Hartnell has 54 PIMs, by far his most against any Eastern Conference club (next highest: 38 in 15 vs. Boston).
  • Daniel Carcillo was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the 73rd selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft with a pick acquired in the deal that brought Marc-Andre Fleury to the organization (Florida pick). He never played a NHL game for the Penguins.
  • Ruslan Fedotenko and Mark Eaton are the only players in the series to play for both teams, Fedotenko spending the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons with Philadelphia and Eaton playing 27 games for the Flyers in 2000-01.
  • Penguins nationality breakdown: 13 Canadians, 5 Americans, 2 Russians, 1 Ukrainian, 1 Czech, 1 Slovak
  • Flyers nationality breakdown: 15 Canadians, 4 Americans, 2 Finns, 1 Swiss
  • Only 4 Penguins have ever worn the #13, two of them coming this season (Alex Goligoski & Bill Guerin). Previous to this season the number hadn't been used since 1988 (Charlie Simmer).

It's A Great Day For ... History To Repeat Itself

The last playoff game we played at the Igloo, the Detroit Red Wings walked away with Lord Stanley's Cup. On our home ****ing ice.

I want a fight on the first shift - I want a physically brutal game in which the Flyers are afraid of coming anywhere NEAR that puck.

Tonight we begin our quest: 16 wins.

16 wins to glory.

GO PENS!!!!!

That's quite solid! Love the pics!

I am quite fired up for this game, sitting here at work has been unbearable as every few minutes I remember the game is tonight and I get amped up again. Most of the time I just end up hitting my co-workers, whom are Flyers fans, to get the energy out.

82 Games comes to this...we have to make those 82 mean something now. This will be one tough series and hers to hoping it's one tough spring that ends in whole bunch of

There will be a lot of and : going on but it'll all be worth it if it ends the way we'd all like it too. This is a great group to go through it all with, here's hoping lots of laughs and memories.

Let's Go Pens!!!

Im with you on that, the boys need to come out guns blazing and literally make the entire Philly bench think to themselves. "Damn, we have to play more games against... that...? Jesus..."

Godard needs to go after Hartnell, 1st shift they are both on the ice. And Crosby needs to be in Richards face any time they are in the face off together.

Great GDT as usual. Loved watching highlights from last years' series. Man, that was some fight by Kennedy and Upshall.

So this is probably a stupid question...

I live in Pittsburgh so does that mean I have to deal w/ Errey & Steigy tonight? Or will the game be broadcasted on Versus as if it were any other city?

I would imagine that it will be blacked out on Versus or they will be playing another game. You never get the same game with two stations.

If they are going to do it that way.. why not let people from around the country use their center ice package to get the playoff games they want to see?

I wish they'd do that, but I think it falls under blackout laws. I'm stuck with the Versus feed and I'd prefer the biased FSP feed.

I wonder which teams will show up to the series. Will it be like the last regular season game where you guys lost to a great Biron, or will Biron be himself and play shaky and inconsistent? This series will be my 2nd favorite, behind the Rangers of course. However, that Detroit-Columbus series will be pretty good also.

I've been pretty useless all day. I've had my Pens t-shirt on under my dress clothes today, waiting for that puck to drop. Pens need to come out FLYING and stay in their face all game long. Here's to a good one tonight.
I've already started drinking the Bud Ice. No Joke. Beware the Penguins! Doobie Doobie Doo!
