Your turn to replace the coach and GM

So everyone here is your chance to hire a new GM and Coach in hopes of taking the Wild to the next level.

Next Wild GM- Jim Nill honestly I would be willing to give him anything to build the Wild considering he has had considerable success helping build the Wings.

My 2nd choice for GM would be Anders Hakansson the former North Star who I believe is the scouting coordinator for the Wings.

Coach-My first choice if the Sabres make a change would be Lindy Ruff. Followed by in order:

Todd Richards (my former teammate playing traveling hockey in Crystal)
Paul MacLean
Mario Tremblay
Kevin Constantine
Pat Quinn
Dean Blais

GM - Pat Quinn

Quinn seems like he would be a perfect choice,he is a man that is as well respected as anyone in hockey, from what Russo wrote it seem like he wants the job.He also has ties to Minnesota with his daughter's family liveing in Eden Prarie.

Coach - Peter Laviolette

In keeping with the trend of hiring player agents ... how about Ron Salcer? (Gaborik's agent)

Please god no!!!!

He ran the BJ's so far into the ground it took 9 years to make the playoffs. Not to mention the fact he once gave Todd Marchant a 5 yr/$22m deal.

Too many complete misses with high draft picks I mean we rue the day Pouliot went 4th in '06 and I believe Gilbert Brule went 6th the same year.

If he gets the job I may give up on the team.

I'm not sold on Laviolette. He did horrible on Long Island and while he did win the Cup in '06 he also missed the playoffs in 07 and 08 and was going to again this year before they fired him. Look at what Paul Maurice has done with the same group since February.

Out of all possible GM candidates that have been mentioned, Quinn is the only one that really excites me. Jim Nill sounds like a good choice as well, but he had turned down several GM offers in the past to stay with the Wings. Don't see why he would suddenly change his mind this time. As for others... Jay Feaster - sure he's won the Cup, but he is also at least somewhat responsible for the mess that the Lightning has become. Rick Dudley - meh. Big MEH for Doug MacLean. Pierre McGuire - you've got to be kidding me. Granted, I don't really know some of the other ones (AGM's, minor league GM's, etc.), there might be a hidden gem there. But if I'm Leipold, it's hard for me to look past a guy like Quinn. Hiring him would give the new Wild instant credibility.

You said it, right there. I'd have to say he's the odds-on favorite. If Leopold was smart enough to fire Risebrough, I would expect him to make a similarly smart choice in replacing him, and I think Quinn is definitely the smartest option. Makes me wonder what would have happened if Jaques had stayed - give Quinn a couple of years to acquire some real players, and then see what Lemaire could do with them. That could have been a hell of a combination - two of the smartest minds in hockey, instead of the smartest guy in hockey and Mr. "Oh, Shoot, Did I Walk Into A Wall Again? I Could Have Sworn There USed To Be A Door There. Maybe I'm Thinking Of Someone Else's House."

Pat Quinn built some very strong Leafs teams in the early 2000's (People often forget how good the Leafs were prior to the lockout), and also built a Canucks team that went to the Finals in 1994 (Let's not forget that he quickly turned a horrible team into a contender when he first became the Canucks GM). Pat Quinn has always done well as a GM. He never lost his position as a GM due to his actions in the position. With the Leafs, he was having some major health problems, and he felt that he had to pick between coaching and being the GM. He chose to coach. In Vancouver, he was fired after a transition to new owners. McCaw and Quinn didn't see eye to eye.

Whether it's as coach or GM, I'd love to see Quinn join the Wild.

I grew up near Twin Lakes and attended Forest Elementary right down the block from the arena. We live out in Brooklyn Park now.

My oldest has had a few games this year at New Hope including a MASH game in 2 weeks. The North Arena could sure use an extreme makeover; that place hasn't changed since they jammed 3000 people in their for Cooper/Armstrong games.

Craig Button is my choice as GM. He was a member of the North Stars when he started his career so has a tie to the community. He did some great work with the Flames (don't bring up 1 bad Savard trade - every GM makes a bad deal he regrets later). No one mentions the quality hockey deals he did make:

To The Calgary Flames - Jordan Leopold
To The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim - Andrei Nazarov & 2001 2nd Round selection
(Andrei Taratukhin)

To The Calgary Flames - Craig Conroy & 2001 7th Round selection (David Moss)
To The St Louis Blues - Cory Stillman

To The Calgary Flames - Rob Niedermayer and a 2001 2nd Round selection
(Andrei Medvedev)
To The Florida Panthers - Valeri Bure and Jason Wiemer (Bure requested trade to play with his brother and retired shortly there after).

To The Calgary Flames - Chris Drury and Stephane Yelle
To The Colorado Avalanche - Derek Morris, Dean McAmmond and Jeff Shantz

In his time, he also had to completely restructure the Flames scouting department and head office when he took over.

With Button hired as GM, I'd love Pat Quinn as his bench boss. They have a history together when Button went to the Leafs for a cup of coffee as a scout. Sure Pat hasn't won the Cup, but he's been the final, always has competitive teams and did win the 2002 Olympic Gold medal under intense pressures.

Let me put it another way. Whoever takes the helm better get the scouts in order so we can start pulling talent outside of the 1st and 2nd round for a change.

I would also be onboard for a Quinn/Laviolette GM/Coach tandem. The question I have is whether the team we have is really optimal for Lav's more open hockey style?

should be interesting as to what direction the wild go in. Reading some of the comments bt Doug R--the bog question is --Was he fired for not trading Gaborak? or due to the relationship between the two.I think any GM coming into the Wild will ask those questions. I know that different chat boards are suggesting that Craig L would have prefered trading Gabby for something and not losing him for nothing. But, it comes down to how much money Gabby wants and how much the wild are willing to pay.

Button is on the top of my list as well ... I learned recently that he comes from a hockey family. His Dad, Jack, was once the GM of of the Penguins in the early (1974?)
