Also, I agree with HockeyBased. Maybe we are looking too much into this one move, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sather looks to move Sangs or MDZ, either to move up into the top 10 of this year's draft, get a younger forward or sweeten the deal to whatever team eats the contract of the big 3.

Either way, Gilroy is a pretty good player, and it's pretty cool to say you've played against someone who's on the team now. Back when he was at St. Marys, I skated against him a couple times at the Rinx.

Some one else asked what type of defense man he is. IDK, if it was a B.U. Athletics Director or something but I caught a clip of him on youtube as well. He said Gilroy plays both pp and pk, as he was a real solid two way player (I know it was the NCAA level). Then he got into why he was captain and how good a kid he was. His leadership qualities, etc.... so, time will tell.

But I wonder if this has any effects on what is happening in the Rangers locker room. Even Hartford's for that matter. I mean I hope it's not leaving a "bad taste" in anyone's mouth on the Rangers or Pack's defense. Especially the timing of it. Because I'll bet Mara and Morris must know that one of them is gone after this season. Rozsival could be thinking of the same possibility
.

I doubt the guys in the locker room are giving much thought to the signing of a rookie dman in the middle of a playoff run. If anything, it might motivate a few of them to elevate their games if they have hopes of returning next season.

The way I see it is that essentially, Gilroy is this year's Brunnstrom.

Except it hasn't been as hard to see him play/scout him as opposed to the latter.

And also, Mottau never had anywhere near the hype or playmaking ability Gilroy had already showed at Boston U.

Oh i see. Thank you. I figured someone would have picked him up.

I'm still wondering though, if any one thinks this could be a distraction.

If I'm reading this right, he needs to be 27 by June 30th, 2010 since he obviously won't have 7 Accrued Season. He won't turn 27 until July 20th, 2011.

So unless I'm missing something, he will be an RFA.

The guy has never played an NHL game. Not a distraction to anyone in the organization.

gilroy is still developing as a defenseman, like someone said above, he was a forward then converted to defense and became an all-american, that was a great move by sather.

and to the guy who asked he would be a UFA after 2 years because he was already a UFA and being that he was 24 hes no longer eligible for the Entry Level Contract

1.75 is perfect. Awesome signing by Slats...this kid could step up and become our PP QB we have been looking for.

Low risk, high reward...you can't beat that.

He cant play for the rangers in the playoffs and I assume the same holds true for the Pack.

Can't even ATO signed players play in the AHL playoffs?

I'm under the assumption that he can join Hartford for their run, but I could be wrong.

Also, during his draft year he was 5'6" 140 pounds. He had a late growth spurt to get him to the 6'2 200+ that he currently plays at.

Again, I live in Boston and am a big BU fan. I have seen Gilroy play a lot and he will be a fantastic addition to the Rangers.

+1 I would like to see Mara retained and Rozsival moved as well.

Mara signed cheap to play with us and IMO he's a gamer & a bargin - bring him back.

We'll see where Rosy is on the depth chart after the PO's. If he sinks and IF you can move him, moving Rosy gives us some breathing room on the cap.

i like this deal, because it probably means a big contract will be moved.
and if he doesn't pan out, just send him to hartford. one-way contract or not, who cares? that's dolan's money, not ours

Let's see if Slats made a killing on this one, or if we're in for another bungle in the Rangers' jungle.

Solid 2-way player.

Outstanding offensive instincts, moves the puck very well. Excellent puck control, strong passing ability. Good, but not great shot. Effectively pinches and rarely out of position.

Skates very well. Very mobile and strong stride.

Solid defensive positioning. Doesn't use a lot of body, but will use the body when needed. Effective with stick checking.

Good leader on and off the ice. Leads by example.

Why is this a bad thing?

oh no they got one of the top prospects in the game. ohhhhh crap

I rather see a kid in their to go with Staal, Girardi and likely another guy like Sauer , Potter, Sanguinetti, Del Zotto...............this is what they have to do cause they are not getting rid of Redden's contract

Rozy has value and you can say bye bye to Morris and unfortunatly likely Mara unless he takes the same money

Rozsival will be moved hopefully during the draft so we can move up.

Re-sign Mara and Morris and we're set on D.
