OT : Watch out when parking your car around Bell Center

Just a little heads up for you guys.

There are tons of car break ins in this area around the Bell Center. I work at the arena and everyone morning after an event i see broken glass all over the sidewalks. The thiefs seem to be targetting cars that have GPS brackets on their windshield or GPS antenna's on their cars. So even if you take your GPS with you they will assume its somewhere in your car and break in.

Cops aren't doing anything about it because its been going on for about 2years now.

Also watch out about leaving stuff in your cars when you're in the parking lots, my car was broken into at the one on the corner of René-Levesque and De La Montagne last year.

Anyway just thought you guys should know since the members from this board are mostly from montreal and go to games/concerts at the bell center.

For some reason over the last 1-2 months, I've been noticing extreme levels of car break-ins. I wouldn't be wary just around the Bell Centre; take the precautions mentioned everywhere in Montreal these days. Leave nothing inside your car.

Hell, last year I had my car broken into just because I left a bottle of tequila and a bottle of wine on the floor in the backseat. I thought it was out of sight. But some (presumably drunken) guy smashed the windows just for that.

I second this warning. I live in a condo 2 blocks south of the Bell Center near St. Jacques and De La Montagne and our indoor garage has been broken into 3 times in the last year, every time they break into cars by breaking a window and only take GPS receivers. There is even one case of a woman having $1000 in her car and the thief not taking it.

This happened to me 4 months ago or so an the police confirmed it was a gang that was only interested in GPS receivers.

That's why you pay bums to watch your car.
