Penn Ice Rink

Does anyone know what is going on there? I heard it was being torn down a few years ago, but since then nothing.

I think with some fixing up it could be used for either Junior Hockey, or some minor pro hockey. It could be a really nice facility.

Also, on a historical aspect, was the rink ever successful for college hockey, and if so what happened?

I also heard that it was in the ten year plan for the city to tear it down.

Maybe with the Phantoms out of town, there could be an EPHL type team that plays out of '23.

I know in the most recent years, Penn's club team and Drexel's team played out of '23. It is also used by the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation.

Edit: I was mixing up the years of Penn's rink and the '32 Rink at LP

Overall the place is kind of a dump...I go to Drexel and try to get to the club games but I wouldn't mind seeing it torn down if there were plans to build a new one, but other than club hockey and college late skates there is really no use for it so if it were to get torn down I doubt they'd rebuild.

Its the Rink of '23

The place is a dump, but I would love to see some minor pro team there.

It has the most important aspect, great ice, at least in my opinion.

'23 is nice, when it's winter time. They have to melt the ice down in the Spring.

It wouldn't be so bad, except the rink manager is pretty strict about other events happening in there while the ice is gone (like roller hockey). Seems like a waste of a perfectly good roller hockey rink in the summer...
