I don't know, it seems everybody renews their career when they leave the habs something that seems unlikely to have happened if they stayed. There is something about playing for this team that sucks the life out of soo many players.
I agree, we shouldn't give up on guys with horrible seasons like Pleky, the Kost brothers and Price (second half). That being said, I'd still modify the makeup of this team. I also worry about the Montreal syndrome, in which guys decide to have the most horrible patch of their careers before taking off elsewhere.
I honestly didn't think Ryder played so badly last season. He just got buried in Carbo's doghouse and Carbo wouldn't give him an adequate opportunity to get his scoring touch going. Gainey didn't trade him at the deadline last season and mentioned in the press conference that Ryder offers some special skills. Carbo continued to bench him.
Julien said today that all Ryder needed was to get his confidence back. That comes with adequate ice-time. I noticed Julien had Ryder on the ice late in tonight's game defending a one goal lead and Ryder was backchecking like crazy.
He's a quality NHL'er and we could certainly use a proven 30 goal guy in his prime years that we developed. He always seemed like a nice guy as well.
