I actually saw Green Day in Ottawa in 2005, around Labor Day. Wicked concert - Jimmy Eat World opened for them.

And yeah, clearly I will be going to Bluesfest on the 14th. Ice Cube is an awesome add. Weird that he will be playing before Our Lady Peace, though.

Might have to do with the musicians scheduling as well as security issues. Last year, Snoop Dog played at 5:30.

They should drop Blues from Bluesfest. This show has been less about blues every year for a long time. It used to be a great blues venue now it's a **** music festival.

It's a shame really.

Meh i disagree

Since the new attractions, it has a lot more people

Blues is not huge in this city. There's a reason why they added more diverse acts, to generate revenue..

Although I do agree that the name should be changed. Makes no sense anymore

Frankly the best shows at bluesfest, the most memorable ones, are the acts I've never heard of but accidently stumble upon. They often play on the side stages. Canadian small-label acts, but also niche American and international music. It's a great way for discovering and expanding musical tastes. It's the reason I pony up the dough for the festival passport every year.

So I might look at the lineup and say "I haven't heard of Band XYZ, what a lame line-up," but band XYZ could in fact be much better than any show I have heard of and am looking forward to seeing. The promoters do their research.

Ottawa is actually very, very big on the blues. We have an outstanding amount of quality blues act in this city. If you want some good blues, check out the Lafayette on wednesdays: it's a crummy little ol' bar, but it's cozy and the dude who plays there, John Carrol is absolutely fantastic.

It clearly is meant to be. Haven't seen OLP since about 2000, and Ice Cube is great, too.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has been announced as the headliner for Saturday, July 18th. That Saturday night has three excellent performers playing at the same time - along with LS, the Drive-by Truckers and Black Mountain will be playing.

On Sunday night, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs will close out the festival.

You can also buy tickets the day of the event. Since it's an outdoor festival, it's pretty much unlimited seating / standing.

There can't be many original members of Skynyrd left. Does the band even technically count as Skynyrd?

Either way, I might check them out, them playing after Ludacris should be as interesting as Ice Cube/OLP.

I think that Gary Rossington is the only original left. Of course, the singer is Ronnie Van Zant's brother: Johnny Van Zant.

Thanks for the info. I knew about Ronnie Van Zant's little brother being the lead singer, but I wouldn't have known who were the original members. I guess one original member makes the band technically count as Lynyrd Skynyrd. Should be interesting, anyways.
