Any comments about this player, he is rumored to go back to Sweden for the next season. Is he NHL material? Will he get a fair shot in Anaheim? If not, is it possible he will be traded? Anyone know if Anaheim brought him over as a NHL-player or a player to streghten Cincinatti? Any answers appriciated.

I think everyone will get a fair shot out of camp next season, but he's got an awful lot of competition. He's a good player that could produce with top 6 minute IMO, but he'll have a tough time getting that here. I could certainly see him heading back to Sweden if things don't go well in camp.

He can make it, but not in Anaheim thought. I hope he will be traded in a team which can give him a legit shot in the NHL.

I think if he was going to split and go back to Sweden he will do it when he's an RFA, which isn't until after next season I believe.
He has NHL potential, but I'm not sure if there is a place for him here. He is a great passer and has good scoring ability but still needs work physically and some more defensively. He'll need to get a "Sammy Pahlsson" edge to his game to stick around, as he won't be able to challenge for a top 6 spot.

Martensson signed a 2 year entry contract on 7/15/02 (It's in the Mighty Duck's Media Guide). That would make him a RFA this summer.

So there actually is a pretty good chance he will go back to Sweden after this season.

I thought it was a three-year entry level contract (that seems to be the norm for entry level deals) and the free agent source I go by doesn't list him as an RFA.
I hope he sticks around, we've lost a frightening number of prospects who've returned to Europe in the last while (Hedstrom, Tabacek, Parssinen, Niemi etc.)

I also hopes he sticks around, he's a good player, but was not a star in Sweden and have improved his play a lot in NA. Hope Anaheim are fair to him and trade him to a team that are willing to give him a fair chance to break the lineup.

As for Hedström, he is playing very well, and have a good chance to be given a spot for the upcoming World Champs. Niemi has also looked good, and he and Pärssinen have been on Finland's national team several times this season I think.

The length of an entry deal is determined by age at signing. Martensson was 22.

18-21 3 years
22-23 2 years
24 1 year
25 and older No required number of years,
not in the Entry Level System
and not subject to limits on
Compensation

These are all decent depth guys, but honestly I don't think Anaheim misses any of them that much. I always liked Niemi, though.

I liked it when Antii Aalto(sp?) was around. Not because of his play, but because he was easiest to find on pretty much anything.

Antii Aalto and Ladislav Kohn. Two of Pierre Gauthier's "finds".

I'm pretty sure if Martensson was an RFA, they would of had him on that list (of the link provided)

Wouldn't you trust the Mighty Ducks themselves(Media Guide)before you would trust that random link?

like Hank said the older players dont get 3 year entry deals...The Mighty Ducks Media Guide says 2 year deal...I recall it being a 2 year deal when he first signed as well...

Martensson is a RFA

Did some more looking and not only is Martensson an RFA, but so is Brian Gornick and Jan Tabacek AND Martin Gerber.
Also Nick Smith should be a Group VI UFA

If Gerber's RFA, then he's gonna get dealt between April 2nd and July 1st.

I dont know if he will be traded for sure by July 1st...but he will definetly want a raise from the 500,000 he made this year.

I don't think these are Gauthier guys but remember hearing about these guys?

Petr Tenkrat-had a great start to his career what happened?
J.F Jomphe-Looked like a biker
Frank Banham-Was supposed to be some sort of goal scorer...now he's washing dishes at Hooters.
Jorgen Jonsson-Probably the worst player i've ever seen.

How about Johan Davidsson and Jonas Ronnqvist. Don't know if they can totally be blamed on Gauthier....but thank God those days are behind us.

Tenkrat played in Finland and is currently in Russia, I believe. Jomphe had some fine seasons in Germany, don't know if he is still playing. Jorgen Jonsson is one of the top-stars in the SEL and a key-member of team sweden, when the nhl-stars are absent. banham was in phoenix' system a few season ago, i've lost track on him.
