For all that want Pleks out, exactly who do you plan on replacing him with? What if Saku and Lang leave?

Lapierre
Metropolit
Chipchura
Maxwell

I disagree. The team may start playing as just that, a TEAM.

Ever hear of trades or free agency? The replacement doesn't have to come from within the system.

Francis Bouillon : I would be inclined to give his spot to Weber
Mathieu Dandenault : Time for dandy to move on
Saku Koivu : Absolutely bring him back. He would deal sensibly i think
Mike Komisarek : As most say, yes for the right price . I hate to lose him though
Tom Kostopoulos : earned his paycheck this year. Solid hard working guy you need
Alex Kovalev : Yes. Not for a crazy price though
Robert Lang : Yes, although not a long term deal
Mathieu Schneider : Schneider helped the PP. Defensively ? For the right price
Alex Tanguay : Yes, but I think he will ask for too much
Chris Higgins : Yes. Arbitration eligible RFA. not his best year. Improve? Dealable?
Thomas Plekanec: yes. Also arbitration eligible. Improve? Dealable?

Dandenault - Yes, effective 4th liner\7th Dman. Habs lack of D depth buried them in the end as I've been saying for months. Gainey tried to adress it by picking up Schneider, but he got injured unfortunately. We can't afford to be lean on vet D depth and then expect to get by with AHL Dmen at key times. Keep Dandenault around, he fills this role and plays with guts and passion.

Bouillon - Same deal as Dandenault, but not so clear cut a decision. THis I think is a bit of a coaching call, look back at some tapes of the 2007-2008 season when Bouillon-Gorges was an effective pairing, then decide if this can be reproduced or has Bouillon's game fallen by too much due to age and injuries? This is a judgement call for the pros so I dunno, the other half of the question also is do the habs have a rookie capable of NHL play ready to be worked into the lineup to fill the spot (is Weber ready for prime time? Will O'Byrne ever be? A Russian?)? Maybe they could roll prospects in it as a running tryout.

Komisarek - I like this guy, he's an effective partner for Markov, brings character and heavy hitting, but is he worth more than 3-3.5 million, 4 max?? No way!

Bruce Orpik plays a similar game and got 3.75, and that was after a big hype SCF run. Komisarek's reputation is built up bigtime by the Canadian media too. If someone buys it and offers him 4-5 million let him walk. There's plenty of physical D men out there who can play a physical stay at home role for Markov and who will cost a lot less. Save the money and use it to an upgrade. Who would you rather pay that kind of premium cash to? Komisarek or guys who can actually score a few goals like Aucoin or Beauchemin?

Koivu

It looks like we can forget Lecavalier in Montreal. Everyone wants Koivu to go without spcifying who will replace him. Do you want to have Plekanec and Lapierre as the 1st two centres? Not alot of free agents want to sign here. Blake Wheeler had an offer from the Habs but chose the Bruins instead.

How is it that "everyone wants Koivu to go"?

Most want him to stay.

1st off im praying for koivu to stay and i hope he retires as a Hab as well, as for pleks and Lapierre, Pleks isnt skilled enough to be a 2nd line center however he is not physical enough to be a 3rd line center. for Lapierre he is not good enough(no offense) to be a 2nd center however he makes a perfect 3rd line center.
i would love a lecavalier "type" player as the 1st line center, koivu 2nd line center, lapierre 3rd line center and metro as the 4th line center, as well as chips. for me that is the ideal situation

Dude... Some ppl think Lapierre is a 2nd line center... and Pleks was a 1st line center the year before so we don't need Koivu

The lightning already tried to trade him. Gainey already tried to acquire him. So the basis for a trade is there. Since then Gainey has grown more desperate to bring an impact player here, and the lightning finished 2nd or 3rd to last only increasing Lecavalier's willingness to leave.

I think a deal may get done at the draft. Imagine the impact it would have now that we have such a good 1st round pick, if we traded it away in a package of players to the lightning at the draft this season being held IN MONTREAL.

I've always pooh poohed talk of a Lecavalier deal happening, but I think there is a >SERIOUS< potential of it actually happening this time, because of all the circumstance i've described above.

Pleks is not a 1st line center but could be a #2 if he improves his performance. Lapierre is perfect as a #3, can't see him as #2. Koivu is a #2 - we still need a #1

Plekanec is a 1st line centre in Hamilton the way he played most of this season.

You mean the french media wants him to go. Look here, you won't get the same conclusion: http://www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=635457

Our biggest problem is at center. I'd keep one of Koivu or Lang and do everything in my power to get a true top line center with size.

I really want Koivu, Kovy, and Komi to stay.

Re-sign Pleks, he had an off year but I won't give up on him just yet.

Sounds good. Keep the one that asks for less money. Both are very comparable pointwise.

I think that if it comes down to one of these two, Koivu will easily get the contract over Lang.

There are no free agents better than Koivu at center this year...

and trading for a good center cost a center normally, so we don'T solve any problem trading a center for another one

If any team is willing to throw big bucks at Plek with an offer sheet, there would not be a better scenario for Montreal. I'm not sure he's worth a 2nd round pick, much less the multitude of 1st round picks associated with offer sheets.

I'd re-sign UFA's Kovalev, Tanguay, Lang and Komisarek and RFA's Plekanec, Higgins, Latendresse, D'Agostini and Stewart.

UFA's
Kovalev - $4 a year/2 years
Tanguay - $4 a year/2 years
Lang - $3 a year/1 year
Komisarek - $3.5 a year/3 years

RFA's
Plekanec - $3 a year/3 years
Higgins - $2.5 a year/2 years
Latendresse - $2.5 a year/3 years
D'Agostini - $1.5 a year/3 years
Stewart - $1 a year/2 years

9 players = $25million

Tanguay - UFA Center - Kovalev
S.Kostitsyn - Lang - A.Kostitsyn
Higgins - Plekanec - Latendresse
D'Agostini - Lapierre - Laraque/Stewart

Markov - Komisarek
Hamrlik - Weber
Gorges - O'Byrne

Price/Halak
