This POS actually has the balls to call Gainey a liar. Gainey may have his failings, but one thing everyone can agree on is Gainey=Integrity. This dirtbag former player agent used UFA player agent tactics in a trade negotiation.
“C’est complètement faux. Nous sommes une petite communauté. Il y a seulement 28 autres directeurs généraux et il n’y en a pas un qui va vous le confirmer parce que ce n’est pas arrivé. C’est absurde, ce n’est simplement pas vrai.”
It's completely false. We are a small community. There are only 28 other GMs and none will confirm this to be true because it never happened. It's absurd. It simply isn't true...
Edit:
I just read the Tampa Bay blog . Didn't realize Lawton was quoted there too..

One, Lawton is an idiot. He had to know he was going to lose that battle. A simple "we didn't leak any player names," might have been enough to placate Vinny without getting into a flame war with Gainey that he is going to lose.
And the second thing?
Do these sound like two men on the verge of completing a major trade?
Vinny to Montreal rumors should end here. If they're bickering in public, I doubt they're getting trades done right now.
(LOL) +1 I know. Can you believe this *******? Oh we're not shopping Vinnie, meanwhile, he's calling teams to see if they can better Montreal's offer while it has been confirmed, like 10 different ways that he in fact was shopping Vinnie.
Well given that Lawton still denies having ever shopped Lecavalier, of course he cannot admit that any wrongdoings he would have done related to his shopping of Lecavalier would be true. So at least he's consistent.
downside is that we can forget vinny, but how can u negotiate with a guy like that. He's gonna turn it into a UFA day style circus when he's "not trading" him.
My two cents: Whether this is true or not, for Gainey to imply the distraction contributed to the team's collpase the second half of the season seems like a reach. NHL players are big boys. They understand anyone can be traded at any time, and it is difficult to believe such elite players could have their games thrown off to that extent.
Yeah because knowing that you might be traded, having to relocate your family, change houses, change team mates is not stressfull AT ALL. No of-course not, these guys are robots.. we all know that.

Yeah, I mean while this is a idiot/underhand thing to come out.
How about the mere idea of trading a guy you just signed to a life time contract right before it kicks in?
...and the Dan Boyle stuff!
God I hate the Lightning since the ownership change.

No, that point is fair, if you're a Tampa Bay beat writer.
Hockey players do know this and they deal with it, that is no excuse.
However, these guys play in Montreal and I doubt this guy fully understands the circus that went on during the Lecavalier season around these guys. I think THAT is what Gainey was blaming.

Im not using that as an excuse for poor performance through out the year. I'm just saying, you can only imagine what they must be thinking hearing there part of trade rumors (especially Higgins, every year) is it an excuse no. But, it has an effect.. a huge one at times. Enough to throw them off their game? Im not any of them so I can't say that.

I agree, but it is something they all need to learn to deal with. But it's not like any of those guys have wives and kids. I'm in their age bracket. If my job moved me to South Florida tomorrow, it would be a pain in the ass, but it wouldn't cause great issues.
The real issue this year was the absolute insane media circus around each of them, asking Plex each day "did you hear you're moving to Tampa." I am certain that the rumors hurt him, especially.

I can't believe Tampa Bay fans are criticizing Gainey and actually believe Lawton! What a joke! The TB fans are delusional. Gainey would be the last person to lie about this stuff. He's the epitome of character and class. I'm sure Gainey would have rather not said anything, but he got emotional and decided to answer the reporter's question. So he spoke the truth.
I wonder what St.Louis, Lecavalier and Stamkos think of that organization. The only good thing is the nice weather. I'm sure even opposing players don't think highly of that organization.
So let Lecavalier and his absurd contract rot in the sun. I don't know if you guys have seen him play but his skills have def. regressed. His injuries have affected him, he barely backchecks, he's slow and he honestly looks like he's lost passion for the game. But then again, he plays in Tampa Bay!
Exactly,Lawton and the rest of those clowns down there are one big joke.I heard earlier this week they fired most of their staff down there even their mascot got axed
Wonder where they will get the money for Vinny now!!!
