Too much pressure and he can't handle it. This became crystal clear after his in-close chance vs hiller, where he froze and just stuffed it into hiller's pads (not a super good chance anyway)... but after the next whistle, when other dudes were getting roughed up infront of the net, joe goes for a drift instead of getting involved in the scrum. He's inside his own head, he's not even playing the game any more.

We either need another superstar who is better than him, or he needs to go. I'm starting to wonder whether his style of play and personality will ever allow him to be a winner in this league... too much depends on thornton when he's the #1, and too much of his game depends on being the #1.

I've given him endless chances to prove me wrong, and backed him up over and over, but he is leaving me and many others with nothing to back up.

So right now I don't want Joe on this team, for the most part he is an emotionless gutless big hunk of skin...Not sure if he has bones?

Not only do I think he should leave, I think him and Marleau should personally send me checks and pay me back for the fricken jersey's.

I'll wait till the seasons over to see if he and Marleau have serious injuries, but barring something major I'm game for almost anything at this point.

Nabby has to pushed to the side if he can't be traded.

I used to love Thornton, he was a scary player in those World Championships (that's right, no NHL playoffs) but he has outstayed his welcome.

Doug Wilson needs to get ****ing rid of him.

I think there's a fundamental gap of comprehension here if you think Thornton can/could be traded tonight.

I've been defending this guy for the last three years ... I'm done. Might as well trade him while he's in his "prime."

Joe only has one year left on his contract right? So does DW try to trade him this offseason (I know Joe has a NTC, but then again so did Boyle) or do we go into the season and risk losing him next offseason for nothing? We're in a pretty tough spot here because we're obviously not going to extend him after the pathetic showing this playoffs.

I know he can't just trying to say how much I want him gone, but maybe we can just give him to the Ducks plus like $100.000

It's obvious he doesn't perform when he is the focus of the defense. In the playoffs they will shutdown all his passes that's why he needs to work on his offensive game and rip some shots at the net so we can get some putbacks. Not a game to remember for Big Joe tonight. Our PP is too predictable and won't scare a D like the Ducks. We need a 2 way player that can play D and not only create offense for others but himself as well. I think we need to draft a dangler similar to Datsyuk to move the Anaheim D out of there prevent. We would have more shots and opportunities.

My office is littered with Joe Thornton memorabilia. He was always my favorite player, even when he was with Boston.

That said, I want him gone. He's not a champion. I no longer care about the regular season. It means NOTHING to me. I only want players that can play in the playoffs.

Put this in perspective. Osgood sucked in the regular season, but he's been money in the playoffs. I'd take that any day over Nabby who plays well in the regular and can't steal a game in the post season to save his life.

Again, regular season means jack!

Also done defending him. This series has been atrocious.

i still believe in patrick marleau he shows up every year i am sure he is hurt and also the fact that he has been stuck on a checking line all playoffs against the getzlaff line makes it kind of hard to produce...

Nope, but I wouldn't trade him unless we get something good in return. If someone offers a 2nd line winger, a bottom pairing dman, and a fringe NHLer, I'll pass.

players that i can think of that are an upgrade from thornton (regular season at least) are likely not available.

already tired of his playoff "performances" though.

depending on free agency outlook maybe SJ should just jettison the big guy for defensive forwards and draft picks and use the cap room to go after someone else.

well, that and $3.50 will get you a cup of coffee for the next three to four seasons while said 18 year old kid learns how to play hockey in the big leagues, and has a large chance of never figuring it out.

No excuse. All the greats fight through adversity to succeed. Marleau doesn't. He just gets a hat trick once a round to make everyone forget how mediocre he was in the two games before and after it.

Columbus has been looking for a center for Nash for a while. Maybe they would give up Filatov + a 1st or something?

I have backed him every season, I am done.

Who the **** are you to not check people in the post season? Who are you to not skate in the post season?

Hey Islanders, interested in a great center for the regular season?
