They want that game 7, more revenue.

This is pretty big news for the the NHL, it's very rare for a head coach to be suspended during the SC playoffs. I'm not making judgement on this but it's a suspension that will be heard round the world of hockey.

More theatrics from Gary Bettman and his mickey-mouse league.

So, would anyone else LOVE to see Glen Sather behind the bench tomorrow afternoon?

I have just one question:

Where was the freakin security whil all this was going on?

At MSG there are 5-6 security guards surrounding any kind of disruptive behavior.

Where the hell were these guys at the verizon arena?

bogus

I think a hefty fine would have sufficed -- that's preposterous to suspend a coach in the Finals.

That being said, I'm not completely sure this will have a huge impact on the game. Will probably fire the team up: "Us against the world mentality," if anything else.

Pardon me for thinking that jumbotrons were supposed to be used to show replays, and out of town scores during breaks in the action.
At the final Islanders game of the season they showed clips of Superbad

Right. Because Jim CLEARLY can't handle that.

the referee's blind eye to abuse put on avery, this suspension, it all smells fishy. I'd love for us to win the series tomorrow for nbc to pan to bettman in the skybox doing one of these --->>

I wouldn't be surprised to see pelino behind the bench with schoeny, but if slats came down that would be glorious.

It is a good question. Unfortunately, speaking from experience, verizion security is a joke. Just look at one of the videos and you can see it. Instead of getting the fan out of there quickly, he continues to yell from behind the security guard, who just tries to block tort's view.

I agree, the Caps are prolly kicking the can right now after hearing this. Bettman may be your best friend after tomorrow, you guys now have a cause bigger than winning the cup. Win for Torts...

A betting man would go all in for the Rangers after this one....

Rangers just released a statement saying they disagree with the suspension.

Bettman's power has gone unchecked for too long, he has absolute authority. Compared to the other sports leagues, the NHL Commissioner is rarely taken to arbitration or court to appeal disciplinary decisions. This may provide an opportunity for Torts and the Rangers to challenge the Commissioner's authority.

Bettman is already pissed off at the Rangers for suing the league last year over the Rangers' ability to control their own website, there may be some bias involved in Torts' suspension and the Commissioner may be unable to make an impartial decision. I think the Rangers should definitely consider appealing. The fact that they found that Torts instigated the incident by squirting the fan first sounds a bit flukey to me...

It's pretty clear from the Canadian TV video what he did (he threw a water bottle that hit a woman in the head). If an opposing coach had done that - I would be crying out for a suspension.

For tomorrow's game though, i don't think it makes that big of a difference. If anything, it'll give us an edge. Let's get on with it and win.

I mean because how dare those Rangers fans come to a Hockey game and harrass Ref's at their place of work right?

As for me, feel free to come to my work and pour beer on me. Just make sure the beer is Budweiser. Its tasty and it passes as a nice cologne in a pinch.
Dude, apples and oranges. Being called an a-hole is quite different than someone making slurs against your family and/or having beer dumped on you. Hell, I've been called an a-hole at work. I've never had liquids thrown at me though.

I have stated that I think Tortorella should have some sanction taken against him.

However, I also believe the "fan", the Capitals organization, the Verizon Center, the "security" guard, and the NHL bear some responsibility in this incident, and they walk scot-free.

The very fact the Caps fan may have violated the law here, gotten away with it, and did more than any Capitals player in gaining an advantage, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

I think MSG security should take a lesson from the Verizon Center security tomorrow. Step back and let the beers fly.

How does anyone other than "the fan" and "Torts" bear any responsibility? They are the 2 that acted like morons.

I guess you can make the case that the heckler could have been ejected at some point prior to Torts snapping, but that's "iffy" given the statements of the people interviewed, and keep in mind behind the bench hecklers are commonplace. At any rate, how on earth would "the NHL" be culpable?

Who cares about the fans on the main board? Let's worry about our team and see what type of advantage we can impose on our home ice. I am not only talking about our team I am talking about us fans as well!

You know what, this totally sounds like karma working against Tortarella. He benches Avery to discipline him, then goes about doing the most undisciplined thing you could possibly do at a professional sporting event: react to the fans of the arena taunting you... not only react, but attack them! What a disgrace, Torts deserved whatever discipline comes his way, I think this is unexecusable on his part.

Think of how many times Avery has been taunted, has he ever reduced to what Tortarella did, attack fans?

Way to not be selfish and think team first, Torts. Would Renney ever do this?
