Kovalev/MTL

2 Quotes in LaPresse this morning from Alexei Kovalev--

"Dont remind me of my time spent wth the Rangers please."

"I say it again, the fans were incredible towards me. Its so exciting playing for such a crowd - it's been a long time."

sather, dolan, system... i don't know if i can blame him for feeling that way, and the montreal reporters probably loves getting those sort of reactions. still... well i guess we'll see how the fans react when he signs somewhere else in the off season.

Alexi couldn't get it done in NY on 2 seperate occassions.

It's not the team or system, it's clearly the player not being able to get it done in a big NY.

There's been a ton of players that were good that failed here, he's just 1 in a very long list that will get longer.

With all the money he's made and the respect and affection we've given the guy.... as far as I'm concerned he can go back to Russia. When you play like he did you have NO excuses. Don't give him any...

Ah Alex Kovalev.

Whether he's 21 or 31 he still finds a way to make himself look like a childish headcase.

Bottom line is that with the exception of a few years in Pitts {and not even all of them} the sum has never equaled the total of his parts.

There is no reason this guy shouldn't have 1000 points by now except for the fact that he's about as mentally tough as his pet troll.

Yup. A system or lack thereof is not responsible for Alex's excesive stick handling at the blueline and consequently drawing his teammates offsides.

That's the difference between someone like Alex and Matthew Barnaby. You put in the effort, you work hard and you keep it simple and you will be successful on the ice and in the eyes of the fans. What a concept.

Love to get Alex's take as to why there was no "Alex Kovalev Appreciation Thread."

Yes, but he may have been the best player on the ice during one of the Rangers most important games in team history.

1994 - Game 6 in New Jersey - Messier got the Hat Trick, but Kovalev was the reason for that comeback.

I think his point that Kovalev brought it when it mattered the most, with our backs against the wall, with the curse and our history staring in our faces he responded and for that he will always be a favourite of mine, players who brings it when it matters the most and it doesn´t get much bigger then that game.

I'll disagree there. Obviously it was a huge goal, but if Matteau doesn't score the game continues and maybe the Rangers score next, maybe they don't.

If Kovalev isn't great in game 6, the season is over.

My point was in response to the quote that Kovalev "failed twice in NY" ....

while thats true... in the end it was messier who scored the goals.. one post and the whole kovalev point is moot

kovalev did fail twice in new york.. the only stretch he's had here where he was a great player was the second half of 94... one game or a few months doesn't make a career... see dvo, hlavac

kovy may as well be a great player still but he wasnt in new york
