Season: Success or Failure?

Hey guys, I've managed to catch a lot of Habs hockey this year thanks to my Centre Ice subscription. I was just wondering though, wfrom a Habs fan perspective, if you consider this centennial (100th season) year to be either a success or a failure?

I'm looking forward to seeing what you all think.

Was a pretty bad season, but not the worst ever. We made the playoffs, so I guess that's a learning experience..? :\

far from the worst ever but with all the expectations for the 100th season i thinks it's fair to say it's an epic fail.

average season:

lost a coach, many injuries, made the playoffs lost to the best team in the east

positives:

Halak can be above average back-up
Patches can play in the nhl
Maxim Lapierre has become a great 3rd liner/pest
Latendresse is getting better
Weber can also play and be effective on the PP in the NHL

Objectives for off-season:

- Need a #1 Centerman
- 1 or 2 puck-moving D's (inside and outside the organization)

Pretty much the last one too. I think it was average, sure the expecations were high, but that's the point, they were too high.

Expectations were too high, but the team started well, almost fueling them further. The crash therefore seemed harder than it might otherwise have.

The end result of a 90+ point season and a first round playoff exit probably were fair outcomes given the inexperience of the team and the injuries. That probably would have been a fair pre-season expectation. It's almost a shockingly good outcome, actually, given how many individual players failed to live up to individual expectations.

But the way it all happened makes it worthy of a "fairly terrible" vote. Although I'd probably choose some wording that was a tad less harsh there, like "disappointing", below-average, etc.

I thought it was more frustrating than anything else - hard to call it a failure or a success. I guess it could be considered a failure because our young players didn't seem to improve on last year's performances, but then again going through this experience can be considered pretty valuable I guess.

I just felt really frustrated that we could not win "must-win" games - we lost almost all of them this year.

I put fairly terrible just because I do think had we been healthy at least for the second half of the season and playoffs, we would've done much more damage.

For one I think we would've been in 4th to 5th. For two I think we would've gone to the second round. For three I think if we were fully healthy we could've at least brought Boston to 6 or 7 games, if by fluke we were lucky, even win game 7.

It was failure because everybody on our team got injured repeatedly and the ones who didn't just plain sucked.

My point of view is Average if we would assist this season with out considering it's the 100th anniversary. For the past 15 years or so, we have miss the playoff way to many times or got eliminated in the first round and second at best.

Burns and Demers where our last real coach's. No 100 point guy or Norris winner. Since Roy, it's like we only need a goalie to win and forgot that the team in front of the goalie needs a printing, and identity, a value, some character.......The goalies are not always gonna bails us out.

It's really hard to watch games at time cause I hate to loose and well they have done that to much for way to long. Still next year, I will cheer and watch games cause they are my childhood team. I can still remember the 86 cup. I was 9 years old. My greatest memories was to watch it with my dad and making a wish on a wish chip(LOLOLOLOLO)I even got the whole cup series on VHS.

Since then, we have one more cup ths to Roy and the TEAM in FRONT of HIM.
This off season has promising and could be the greatest off season for the habs.

I wonder what people would think if it was reversed where we have a horrible first half and power our way to a playoff spot in the second half.

The expectations leading into this season was that we were cup contenders. So no matter which way you slice it, it was a big let down.

I'm sure there have been a ton of worst years in Habs history. This was a very disapointing one because we had the talent to be among the top teams but injuries and inconsistant play by many players really hurt.

I think people need to stop panicking and calling for a complete purge. Those generally don't turn out well. I think some players need a new home, but some need a bit of patience.

I have been disapointed with Price, Plekanec, both Kostystyns, O'byrne and Gorges this year, but it would be a mistake to trade those players with their value at a low...unless there are irreconcilable differences there. I think most of those players took a step back or at least stayed in neutral this year.

In terms of UFA's, I think a guy like Kovalev unless he is a cancer in the room(none of us here know this) should be re signed if the price is reasonable. Komisarek is another big piece both in the room and on the ice, though he had a rough year, he would be a huge loss. Lang is another that had a strong year before going down, 1 year deal in the 3-4 mil range. Schneider, as long as the price is right, would be my #5-6 guy. Kostopoulos for around 1 mil for 2 years, you can't go wrong.

Tanguay to me unless we can get him cheap, I would not get in a bidding war. Koivu, depending on the price and his impact in the room. I was a big fan of his but would have liked him more vocal this year when the crap hit the fan. Bouillon, unless he comes real cheap, Dandenault also. Brisebois, his time is up.

Due to the expectation, the season was bad. But objectively, the season was as you said, average. We had the potential to be better, but a mix of bad luck, injury and stupidity who ruin our season.
