If anyone to trade it should be Marleau because Thornton has been known to make the players around him better during the regular season. If you keep Marleau he will go back to his second line performances from previous years and drag the rest of the team down with him.

Soooo it's not out of the realm of possiblity that he will be better than big Z. Chara's great, but if Myers' offensive game translates to the bigs, LOOK OUT
He looked pretty horrible during the WJC. It's easy to dominate 16 years. He'll have to do it to men who are stronger and meaner than he is.

I dont think Meyers is going anywhere after the WJCs and helping Kelowna to the Memorial Cup

HF lol
Myers stated in an interview on Rogers SportsNet during the Memorial Cup that he was now 6'8". When asked if he was still growing he replied "I hope not."

I get your take on Thornton...but how many Cups have the Sabres won?

Thornton is your mistake and will not return his full value until he can prove he is able to play in the playoffs. When that happens, the fans probably won't want to trade him.

I dont see the reason behind this for Buffalo. They have Connolly, Roy, Vanek, all three very good players and capable of playing 1st line minutes. getting thorton would mean they would have to give up some part of their future.

but if we're talking about deals then:

To Sj:

1st 09

2nd 10

Tyler Ennis

To Buffalo:

Thorton

3rd round pick 09

I think that can get it done.

Agreed. Thornton is 30. His best offensive days are behind him. I think it is fair to say that Myers is one of the top 5 prospects in all of hockey at this point. He is looking more and more like Chara or Pronger and less and less like Mike Wilson.

I think the only way Thornton comes is if Vanek goes. Buffalo cannot afford 2 7+ million forwards. No way. I'd propose a Vanek for Thornton deal, straight up. Both teams would be gambling, but it would be a major identity change for both, something that could turn out great or turn out terrible.

I think Vagrant meant to say:

Why in the world would a town like Buffalo that has an undeniable history of NOT being able to cement a championship bring in a player like Joe Thornton who has the same exact discredit to his name?

Given the actual history of Buffalo (no Championships) and that he stated Thorton has the exact same discredit, I think it was just a typo. And I agree with his original point in that Buffalo needs someone that has proven to be able to win the big games.

?? Horrible? 16 year olds? (find me a 16 year old that contributed in that tournament)

I would not make this trade if im the Sabres.

I wouldnt trade Roy and Myers strait up for Thornton. Roys contract is unbelievable and he is playoff proven and clutch. Plus he is 4 years younger then him. So Roy scores 15 to 20 less points in the regular season at half the price then he outscores Thornton in the playoffs.

Plus Myers who is an absolute beast with a ridiculous upside. No way thank you.
