We made the playoffs 4 of 5 years under Gainey, when's the last Habs GM to have that kind of track record?
Actually, over the past 20 years, Calgary Flames where in the playoffs 10 times, out of the playoffs after one round 10 times, and one Stanley Cup Final. They aren't happy in Calgary, why should I be with Gainey? Sorry for loving to win when I play at something or when I'm watching a team then. Losing in Conference semifinals isn't an accomplishment.
the answer is simple for the coach....Mike Ditka!!!!!!!
hes a famous fball coach who was a great soccer coach in kicking and screaming, so if he can coach fball and soccer he must be able to coach hockey

I made my mind now about what, as a fan, I'd like to see for the Habs during the next season. It seems drastic, but it is time to do some real moves.
STAFF
-Melanson fired. Bring Allaire.
-Bob Hartley : 2 years deal.
-Keep Bob Gainey one more year.
-Bring Charron and Proulx to assist Hartley ; Muller and Jarvis fired.
-Bring Claude Lemieux and Vincent Damphousse in the organisation with some basic jobs for now.
RE-SIGN
-Kovalev. Give him the 'C' for one year. One year option.
-Komisarek : max offer 3.75M$ or too bad.
-Tanguay : give him 4M$ / 4 years deal.
-Lang : one year, major paycut.
-Kostopoulos : 2 year deal.
LET GO :
-Koivu
-Dandenault
-Bouillon
-Schneider
TRADE :
-Higgins
-Halak
-O'Byrne
*Kost Bros. if we can get a major player ('ala' Lecavalier or Kovalchuk)
*Plekanec if we can get an other center ('ala' J.Staal)
-Some prospects (time to move for some established players)
AIM UFAs :
1-Gaborik or Havlat (injure prone, but explosive players, if they accept decent salaries) ; Hossa if he doesn't resign with Detroit.
2-Top 3 defenseman : Beauchemin or Ohlund. I can live with a Boynton, Leopold or Kalinin.
3-A hard-nose player. I definitely see Knuble here. If not (and if we can't get a number one winger), one or two of these guys :
Forward : Antropov, Cole, Moen, Laperriere, Bertuzzi, Kotalik.
4-Backup veteran goalie (Fernandez, Garon, Roloson. I'd like a Biron or Khabibulin but they still can be number 1).
5-One more D-men (for depth):
D-men : Gauthier, M.A.Bergeron, Spacek, Boucher.
Guess I'm dreaming... But if they decide which direction to take sooner than later, I hope we will see some major moves from my list.
So your center line looks like this:
Plekanec
Lang
Laperierre
Lapierre
Your defense is:
Markov
Hamrlik
Beauchemin (if he wants to come)
Gauthier (headed for retirement I think. I don't see anyone offering him a contract)
Bergeron (can't play defense, pp specialist)
Spacek
Boucher (could also headed for retirement I think)
Gaborik, Havlat and Hossa-you will have to overpay by a huge amount at this point. None of them are coming. The top UFAs never come.
Boynton was scratched some this year.
Leopold is so overrated but he won't come here anyways.
I think you are headed for a lottery pick, mainly because your centre line is too weak and your D is made up of guys that are washed up and can't get a job anywhere else.
And I forgot about the coach. I don't see any of his former players shed a tear when he gets fired. I think you hire this guy to fire him real quick because players don't like this guy.
2008-2009 season made me puke my balls through my mouth.
We need a coach with experience. I guess you haven't enough memory to remember what happened with : Tremblay, Vigneault, Julien, Carbonneau and Therrien.
Why keep Gainey? We don't need time to lose. Draft and UFAs are coming, players NEED to know what's happening in Montreal now or it will be too late.
If you guys are geniuses, then propose your plans. Or maybe you are just good at criticizing... Ah, that explains the more than 1000 posts....
There's a reason all of us are on message boards, and not running professional teams. I don't see a point in saying "what I would do" because... no one cares what I would do.
