Richard Zednik leaves the NHL for Russia.

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/273897.html

Basically state that Zednik has signed up with Yarolsavl of the KHL.

It's sad when players who are good enough for the NHL, go to play in lesser leagues. I hope he finds whatever he's looking for in Russia.

Funny I read Zednik leaving NHL, and no more than an hour later I read he's nominated for the Bill Masterton Award. Odd timing.

?

I wonder if the NHL will still give him the award for "dedication, sportsmanship, and perseverance" if he won't even be playing here anymore?

Maybe he still has an out-clause in this deal?

Didn't every team pick their nominee a while ago?

Like familiar environment and big enough salary? I'm sure Zednik gets everything he needs from Russia.

Weird statement, not like he's going to a work camp in Siberia, nor is he in the throes of an existentional crisis. The guy wants to play in a major European league, closer to his home country, likely for more money - who wouldn't do that? KHL is obviously not on the same competitive level as the NHL but you have to consider that perhaps Zednik doesn't put as much value on winning a Cup. Good luck to him though, I could see him coming back before his contract is up.

Always liked Zednik. Though he had what it takes to continue playing in the NHL. He could definatley help out another NHL team.

meh, I'm not shocked nor do I blame him. Florida probably didn't want to sign him for much $ due to his age, injury, and need for team change. 99% of players go where the money goes, plus he wasn't born in NA.

I hate to think of the outcome if that skate accident had happened in the khl?

I'm surprised because if he cut his neck in Russia who knows what would have happened. Look at what happened to Cherepanov.

Kind of glad to see him go honestly, he seemed like a good guy and a good player but he always seemed to get ****ed up at least once a season. Kind of glad he leaves before he gets beheaded on the ice.

Good luck to him. I've never been one to blame a player for switching continents, especially if it brings them closer to home.

He'd be stone cold by now, but perhaps Cherepanov would still be alive...

What the hell, this guy has always been a decent regular. I was thinking Florida would bring him back for sure.

Russian doctors are second to none when it comes to treating cut throats. They had plenty of practice from the nonsense in the 90s.

That said, great addition for Lokomotive! Hope he wins the masterson....it will be hilarious!

That is, if the teams can afford one.
