Avery: I've Found My Coach

Great interview.

Quote:
"We had a talk before Game 7, he needs to stay on me," Avery said. "Really, it's the first time in my career there's a guy that's going to make me a better player. There's not going to be things I agree with all the time."
Quote:
"There's no other coach I'd rather play for," Avery said.
Quote:
"I thought about it and if the organization, my teammates, the coaches believe in me, I just have to go out and play my game," Avery said. "I can't worry about the suits on Madison Avenue. I've got to play my game. I'm not going to be perfect all the time. At times I will do something I shouldn't. But I'm not perfect. But I do know that's the way I have to play the game."
Quote:
Avery said he would take the summer to work to improve both his game and as a person but he would not be interning at a fashion magazine.

There is more to the interview, I just posted some main points.

But this is very encouraging news to say the least.

Cool. Good to hear. It's hard to hate Sean Avery when he gives 100% on the ice and if he can round out his character then he's all the btter for it in my oh so humble opinion.

Wait.

First Torts finds humility and now Avery finds a heart?

My goodness.

Well, I guess this quells any concern that Carp had that Sather would have to move Avery over the summer because he didn't get along with Torts. Please come back Sam Weinman!

The two of them are sociopaths, so I can see this working out for a bit. I can also see it exploding at any point.

What a joke. How many blow ups is it going to take before people realize Avery isn't worth his baggage. Game 4 was the most selfish thing I've seen... since the last time Avery was selfish. Final 5 min in a one goal game in which you are about to go up 3-1 in the series and he's pulling that crap? He'll never change and people on this board will apparently never learn. He was amazing in game 7 but no team he's on will ever win the cup.

after watching him play his guts out for this team in game 7 and quite possibly be our best player on the ice in that huge , huge game, i will say that i feel vindicated defending avery. turns out, he may just be a decent guy after all.

considering what he has had to endure since he left dallas and what hes gone thru on the ice with the uncalled roughing fouls and chippy play, the putrid officiating, the looking the other, the blatant bias against him, and the media circus that surrounds him, id say hes done a decent job keeping it together.

i love this guys game. i love his skill. i love his speed. i love his heart. he plays on the edge and if he can keep disciplined enough to go right to the edge and not over it, he can be one of our most valuable players.

You think so? Tell that to the Red wing team that won the cup when he was on the team.

This blind hatefor Avery has to stop.

you mean the team that literally moved his locker outside of the locker room?

i can't hate avery because he gives it his all on every shift, but the guy can be a problem sometimes.

Funny how everyone said Avery will not be coming back to the NYR since Torts disliked him, a lot.

He was playing great since he returned, minus the 2 games against the Caps where they got in his head. But after game 7, lets hope that is the Avery we see. He was the best skater on the ice.

I don't care if his locker was on the roof of the Joe. Did they or did they not win a Cup?

Great to hear, Avery is here for the long run and it's obviously good that he gets along with our coaching staff.

Avery's been a changed man since his suspension. It's not easy to change yourself overnight. We've seen the stretches where he's kept his cool so we know he's capable. It seems like that game 4 was his release. He's kept it bottled up for so long and just got carried away. Hopefully he is able to adjust a bit more over the summer and come back a bit more focused.

if we had a good enough team where avery could play on the third line and match his current production i would be pumped about this. However, avery being a 40 point player on our first or second line to me is nothing to get excited about.

He scored 12 points in 18 games...translates to about 55 points in a 82 game schedule. We all know hes not a legit 2nd liner, but if he can plug a hole and put up 55 points next season, i'll be happy.

this is true, avery has only played one full season without getting injured or suspended, etc. and has never topped 50 points a season. I think healthy he could get around 50 points, but i still dont think thats good production 1st liner and ok for a 2nd liner.

In a perfect world Avery would be a top 3rd liner...but on the Rangers he's a 1st liner.
