I'm not sure Picard is ready for anything higher than the third line but stick with him as I will, I 'm all in for Pic this season.

Why? His AHL experience on a team I fear will be stocked with guys lacking experience will be useful.

Picard would cost a million to keep, he has yet to score a goal in the NHL. There is no reason the Jackets should even think about signing him to anything less then a 2-way deal for well under $1 million.

Yet Modin, Chimera, Malhotra, Rome and Williams will play or be considered to play.

Here to beat this to death - -

At this point, what is every NHL team missing in considering JW? Or, what am I missing?

Here is a 50 - 60 point per year guy who is a solid 2nd or 3rd line forward, who can play any position, who is primarily a center, who can QB the PP, who keeps his mouth shut, and is likely only about 2.5MM / year.

There must be something I / we don't know???

Ok, he is small and plays average defense. 5 or 6 solid "pros" and two "cons".

This was definitely a problem with his point play on the PP (shades of Hainsey)!

"average defense" for JaWil is being generous, IMO.

His play for Atlanta was atrocious; he didn't turn it around 'till he came here. I think that's why.

I'd bet he is asking for a TON of money. I wouldn't be surprised if he was asking for around 4 million per year based off the amount of points he puts up.

A common theme isn't it?

Williams isn't good enough to be a top 6 forward, isn't good enough to be a checker and would want too much money to play on a teams' 4th line.

He scored some timely goals for us, but he also created many shorthanded chances against. Heard or read where Hitch may not have liked his work ethic.

Link? I have never heard anything like that.

Competitive level maybe, but not work ethic.

Well, lets say he does have a knack but I doubt Backman or Novotny are a part of that knack.

Yeh, simply-stated, JW gets as far as the right dot and....... "SHOOTS"!
Thank God, there's no predictability there! Hey Coach, what did you do for Rick? Just a thought........

Can we re-sign Willy for the shootout skills?

The man doesn't seem scared to shoot the puck. That alone makes me slightly warm and fuzzy about him. And we've seen what he can do.

Would Jason be able to re-create the numbers he put up with us last year if we re-signed him? Or was that a fluky, one-off, "change of scenery" performance boost?

If there was anything to get out of those players, he would have gotten it. I highly doubt these players go elsewhere and break out...if they even get a job....

One year @ 1.5MM!

No kidding, can the NHL investigate these clear examples of signing at half price to chase a cup?

The NHLPA should be screaming at stuff like this? When a guy like Hossa admits signing a below market contract (last year) to chase a Cup...and JW...

Nice signing for Detroit, but I sure would have liked to have him for 3 years at about 2.2 per year.

Too much offense for Hitch, I suppose.

Losing Williams kills our depth.
I understand we have younger guys in his slot, but what happens WHEN someone gets injured? Picard? -seriously-
There must have been "other reasons" why they let him go.

I get so tired of bleeping "grinders". Picard is an out of control and worthless ONE NHL POINT player who does nothing but piss off the other teams, can't fight, or score...

JW is 50 point guy who can play every forward position on every line and play the point on the PP
