Over the next 5 (or 7!) rounds, we will be welcoming 150 (or 210!) draftees to begin the next step of their career. The players chosen today will forever change the fortunes of their respective franchises. To these players, I say congratulations, welcome, and good luck.

To kick off the 2009 Entry Draft, I'd like to introduce the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs... me , to make the 1st overall selection.

I'm not one for long drawn out speeches. I'd just like to say, Burkie, this is how it's done.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are proud to select with the 1st overall pick in the 2009 Entry Draft, from the London Knights, center...

We're very proud to bring John Tavares into the fold. He is the future of this franchise and we look forward to seeing him in the blue and white Maple Leaf next season. Toronto fans have reason to be excited. Johnny is as natural a goal scorer as they come. He's a big game player that thrives for those situations. Not only will he be a great addition to the Maple Leafs, but to the National Hockey League.

(TSN.ca) - Moments ago, Maple Leafs GM Soli called upon defenseman Luke Schenn to make their second selection in the 2009 Entry Draft, creating a moment that hockey fans will remember forever.

Luke Schenn: "With the 5th overall selection in the 2009 Entry Draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs select, from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL... my brother... Brayden Schenn!"

Stinson: "Wait.. What? Thats not who we wanted!"

Luke Schenn:
"Muahahah too late, it's done!"

Stinson:
"Are we going to let him do that? Soli?!?"

Soli: "*sniff* that treachery was so beautiful... Let them have their day."

"What a moment," smiled GM Soli. "These two brothers haven't been on the same team since novice. Regardless of affiliation, there isn't any hockey fan out there that didn't love this moment"

"It was a pleasant surprise to have Luke with the big club last year, we weren't expecting it but with the way he played, we couldn't send him down. Some nights he was our best player out there. For forwards, the jump is usually easier, and if Brayden brings the same work ethic and compete to training camp next season, we def. have a spot for him," said GM Soli. "In fact, I was talking with Wilson the other day and he plans on lining up Tavares and Schenn together next season. No word who's playing wing yet, that's something we'll have to discuss between them, but Im sure neither will have a problem with it."

I'll be making the 7th overall selection on behalf of Blackhawk GM LBH.

The Chicago Blackhawks select, from the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL, defenseman Jared Cowen.

BOS has the 21st overall, and Calgary has the 34th.

Wait a sec...that 1st was used in the Jokinen trade. I'll have to go talk to Toes.

Mowzie:With our 8th pick overall, The Tampa Bay Lightning are proud to introduce... from The London Knights... John Tavares......

Officials: He's already been drafted sir.

Mowzie: Huh, what do you mean he's already been taken?

Officials: Yes, first overall...

Mowzie: I thought that was Juan Alvarez... the Mexican...

Officials: No, it was John Tavares...

Mowzie: Wait, isn't that the guy from Pulp Fiction?

Officials: No, that's Samuel Jackson.

Mowzie: No, that's Evander Kane, you racist!

Officials: No, in Pulp Fiction, the actor, it's Samuel Jackson.

Mowzie: No, the white one.

Officials: Ohhhh, no that's John Travolta, not John Tavares.

Mowzie: OK, awesome, I'll draft John Travolta then.

Tampa is happy to introduce, from London, The Arabian Knight himself... Mowzie's mom's auntie's husband's sister's dad's nephew...

Nazem Kadri (pronounced Naw-zeem Ad-ree... the K is silent people)

That would make him 2 times your senior. I actually expected for that to add up correctly.

His Mom's auntie could theoretically be younger than his mom, if her parents sibling is also younger and had the child at an old age. The same goes for the Sisters' Dad's brother, therefore the Nephew could in fact be younger.

If Mowzie were, say, 20. It's plausible that Kadri could be his 17 year old distant relative.

Based on the draft game thread I'm up. The New York Rangers select DMITRI KULIKOV.

I love JORDAN SCHROEDER but Kulikov was just edged him out.
