How does $725,000 compare to what he was on? (can't remember off the top of my head...)

It's the same amount as he made this year.

Almost positive he made the same amount this year, pretty cool of him not to demand a raise or test the market.

I guess this means the Rangers have little confidence in Wiikman or Zaba being a back-up at the NHL level anytime soon.

Valiquette is the perfect backup for this team.

He knows his role and is able to step in and give the team a chance to win when he plays.

I brought that up to Squishy and it isnt that Zaba and Wiikman arent good enough to be a backup, its that without Vally the Rangers depth at goalie is horrific. Hank, Wiikman, Zaba. That would be it without Vally.

surely they would continue to get better playing a lot in the AHL than playing 10 or less games backing up henke.

Well, the question for management would become, "How much better will they become playing in the AHL?" They have zero chance to start as long as Henrik is here, so they'll be confined to backup duty one way or the other.

id rather have a player that becomes a better player backing up than throwing them there when they arent ready. plus they can become trade value if they excel in the AHL, something they would not be able to showcase in the NHL.

Don't get me wrong, I agree. My point was that if management feels that Wiikman or Zaba have nothing left to learn from playing at the AHL level, then it's likely they'd become the backup for the big club. I don't know how management feels about them though.

That's cool. Smart on his part since he was a career minor leaguer before the Rangers.......also gives Hartford goalies more time to develop

What was the rush to get Valiquette signed? Lundqvist can't be playing 70 plus regular season games and expect him to win 4 playoff rounds. He admitted to be tired after game 4. Can Valiquette start 17-20 games next season? The Rangers must curtail Henrik's workload.

Can't go wrong with a guy who's happy at his job and does it well. Especially when there are few alternatives as good and as cheap. On the other hand, Vally's got a good deal where he gets 725k a year for keeping a spot on the bench warm.

not directly related to the Vally signing, but what's the deal with that goalie they drafted a couple of years ago, Antoine LaFleur? Does he figure into any plans in the future?

Here we are paying hundreds of dollars to see a game and this man gets almost $9000 per game to sit in a premier seat every night. I wouldn't be asking for a raise either
