If I was the defenseman, I would have beaten Surovy into the ground.

That pisses me off just watching it.

What an idiot.
I hope the coach let the team whip pucks at him in the dressing room.

Haha, yeah. That's something out of Slapshot!

I'm surprised he didn't get jumped, though.

How are you supposed to hit the net with a puck when you can't even do it with your stick?

It's no wonder Slovakia is doing so bad.

Im still trying to figure out how the very, very minority posters think he wasnt trying to. The post is about 2 feet away, these pro players have at very least average hand eye coordination (and woulndt miss a post from 2 feet)...and the guy is looking right toward the goalies head.

How....in your opinion is this "accidental" and if it was..why wouldnt he say.."oh crap sorry i hit you"

Give me a break. That guy is a piece of garbage who took it out on his goalie. The GM of the team should be EMBARRASSED to even have invited him on the team.

Surovy would have to make one hell of a case as to why he should remain on the team.

An apology to every member of the Slovak delegation would be a start.

I have never seen anything like it.

He was single-handedly putting the Canadiens season in jeopardy next year.

It WASN'T intentional, he just missed the post, and said one or two words to Halak afterwards, don't know why are you trying to make up such a drama out of it.

Wow, I hope this post isn't meant to be serious. If players have such a good hand eye coordination, why do you see them so often missing great scoring chances or why didn't he hit Halak entirely, that should be no problem with his head only 2 feet away.

I'm always amazed how easy some keyboard know-it-alls make judgements if something is defintily intentional or not. Let alone judge if someone is a piece of garbage.

I've never seen anyone miss a slapper on a stationary puck by two feet.

Here the quotes from Surovy:
"In affect I wanted to hit the post."
So can we stop the blabbering that he did it intentionally now??
Further Surovy said: "I´ve already apologized to Jaro, I´m really sorry about it. But I don´t want to talk about it anymore."

Did you expect him to say that he actually hit his goalie intentionally?

In that clip, shown in the first post of the thread, Pasi Nurminen is commentating for the Finnish YLE. His comment, freely translated: "I would have chased that guy around the rink for quite some time."

About the swing itself. I wouldn't like to believe it was intentional. Then again, like some posters have pointed out, he has a clear vision at his goalie, missing the post like that, not apologising... I don't know, weird situation.

And by the way, I agree with Nurminen. That guy really needs to get a reminder from his team mates (code red... )

It was obviously intentional. Before he does it he looks at both the net and halak, he knew where they wereo nthe ice, he didn't miss, he did what he wanted to do.

That is the most pathetic, gutless, and embarrassing thing I've ever seen in international competition

Oh come on people, he did not hit him intentionally for god´s sake. It just expresses how bad exactly Surovy is (as a hockey player) hitting Halak instead the post. Knowing this team, they´re probably having fun over it somewhere playing some baggo or something.....

In most penalties rulebook says "opponent", so you can ie. hook and trip own players as much as you like, without getting penalty for that. In slashing rule goes:

537 - SLASHING

c) A player who swings his stick at another player in the course of any altercation shall be assessed, at the discretion of the Referee, a:

Major penalty + Automatic Game Misconduct penalty (5’+GM)
or
Match penalty (MP)

It wasn't intentional...

Yeah, he shouldn't miss the post... But Patrik Stefan in Dallas in that game against Edmonton shouldn't have missed that open net either.

**** happens...
