The hit didn't look dirty, or even that hard of a hit. The Swiss player was just off balance and in a bad position. It's unfortunate that the player was injured. If they didn't eject Backes someone probably would have tried to get even so I guess it's not a bid deal that he was ejected.

Whoever 20 was on the US team giftwrapped that puck right to the guy who scored. Brutal.

Weak call, are you serious? The play Backes made was stupid and very dangerous

They said on Swedish TV that Sprunger lost his feelings in his legs (for a while) and has a neck injury. Hopefully nothing that'll last.

It wasn't dirty? huuwaat?

The hit wasnt dirty. He was off balance and Backes was trying to clean up. The ref did nothing until the guy stayed down. he didnt hit him from behind or lead him into the baords. It wasnt even a hard hit IMO

The guy put himself in a pretty stupid position in the first place, he should have just stayed down or something, I don't know why Backes made the hit in the first place but the guy went down pretty easy.

Its that ledge around the boards again. The base of his neck hit against it either just before/just after his helmet bounced off.

I guess it's a matter of defining it as not technically illegal just because it doesn't fit the right template or a question of respect for other human beings. I choose the respect one.

Not dirty? Are you kidding me? The Suiss player was just getting up from his knees, making him unable to defend himself in any way when Backes ran him over. He was also at that very dangerous distance from the boards, which alone makes it a dirty hit.

Backes deserved every minute of that misconduct and will probably receive a suspension.

Andreas Johansson (colour commentator) was very pissed off at Backes and called him a coward for that hit.

Not dirty as particularly illegal, possibly a two minute minor for roughing as he had his hands up a bit high. However, it was a pretty darn cheap thing to do.

It's typical IIHF officiating. Or rather, it happens all the time in Sweden. First the refs do nothing, but if the hittee is hurt, they bring out the big guns and eject the hitter. In this case, the closest ref didn't even see the play, but saw someone was down and immediately pointed to Backes. Not saying it shouldn't have been a game misconduct, I just hate the way IIHF refs deal with hits.

Exacty, I know international hockey is less physical but that wasn't dirty at all. I could only imagine how all the people that are saying its dirty feel if they were watching an NHL game where there's actual hitting.

I'd like to see him go say that to his face, then see what happens.
