I don't now if I want the Swiss to win tonight just that Latvia is eliminated or if I want them to lose so that Krueger has to go...

I know huh, hilarious how big Andreas Johansson's mouth has gotten since his career went down the toilet (not that it was anywhere else to begin with).

Besides the stupid penalties called the Us had some pretty terrible decision making all around. This is Switzerland we're talking about, we should be wiping the floor with them, hopefully they come back and do better. It's a pretty terrible looking team we have here.

Johansson is a tool. Did you hear how shocked he was that Brown yelled naughty things to Streit? Said Brown was off his game for doing it. What, he never heard trashtalk in the NHL?

sprunger has been taken to the hospital. didn't have any feel in his arms and legs in the first couple of minutes. apparently it got better as they were taking him to the ambulance.

yeah, pretty flat and uninspired play thus far. i'm sure Wilson let em have it. Plenty of time left to make it 7-2ish.

i will give the Swiss a little credit, they played well, for being Swiss

I just saw a quick replay of the "dirty hit", didn't look dirty at all to me.

Granted, I didn't see it in slowmo or various angles, but my initial reaction was "are you kidding me-ish".

And now for the so called "experts" on these forums that don't know the first things about the official rules, here's a little tidbit for you:

"42.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or
goalkeeper who checks an opponent in such a manner that causes
the opponent to be thrown violently in the boards. The severity of the
penalty, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the
boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the
application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player (or
goalkeeper) applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a
vulnerable position and if so, he must avoid the contact
. However,
there is also a responsibility on the player with the puck to avoid
placing himself in a dangerous and vulnerable position. This balance
must be considered by the Referees when applying this rule.

Any unnecessary contact with a player playing the puck on an
obvious “icing” or “off-side” play which results in that player being
knocked into the boards is “boarding” and must be penalized as such.
In other instances where there is no contact with the boards, it should
be treated as “charging.”"

This is from the NHL rule book, btw. So don't start with the whole IIHF bashing crap. I have emphasized the important bit.

After that joke of a period of "hockey" and you complain about these boards?

I'm more upset that the IIHF and the European professional ice divers are ruining my favorite sport.

I don't know if I'd call Backes' hit clean. I don't really think Sprunger was in control of the puck. It just kinda slid by him. Then again, if he hadn't gotten injured I doubt there would have been a penalty.

The other "penalties" have been a real joke. I hope the US team can get thier act together because they really haven't looked too sharp.

I'm a bit dissapointed in Ryan Suter so far in the tournament. I didn't get to see him a lot this year and after hearing so many positive things I expected more.

So you adjust the level of your comments to the level of game? You might want to apply a higher standard to your actions.

There's a difference between checking someone violently into the boards and pushing someone off the puck who unfortunately falls backwards onto unnecessarily dangerous boards..

Come on, stop playing that tough American vs soft Euro crap because it does not make sense here.

It was NOT a normal hit because it was a cross-check to begin with and to a player in a vulnerable position. How's that normal?

You're just finding this out? I usually laugh at all the ref bashing threads on the main board, knowing what idiots we have in Sweden/Europe.
