Habs sign Yann Danis?

Read this at the USCHO forum. Can anyone confirm?

I've seen Danis at least a dozen times and he is as good as there is in the NCAA. He is a Hobey Baker finalist and was the main reason that Brown had any success at all in the last few years.

If true, it's a nice pickup as Danis was about the hottest undrafted NCAA player graduating this year.

Hmmm.......looks like we are trying to address the fact that our goaltending prospects are maybe the weakest part of a great prospect group.

Good move if it's true!!!!

I'm wondering...

Would they sign this Danis guy to play with the dogs in the playoffs ? I know he'd have to be on the playoffs list the dogs gave a week ago but I think you can play in the AHL playoffs even if you're not on the list if you play junior or college hockey in Canada and in the states. Maybe it doesn't work out that way if they just signed him though... hard to say.

This is what the poster wrote on the USCHO message board:

"Word around the Brown campus is that Yann Danis has signed with the Montreal Canadiens. The signing will be anounced this morning. It happened last night and is for 2 years for huge money. Way to go Yann!"

That was posted this morning. No word yet although if the Habs do announce it, it might take a day or so. If indeed they signed him they have addressed the need for a legitimate goaltending prospect...in North America anyway.

I have not heard this. I heard that the Rangers were very interested, but that several teams want Danis, but thats not surprise as he's that good. I've only seen him once, but he's quick and has put up great numbers (until the end of the season where he seemed to hit a wall perhaps)

This would be a great pickup for us, and he would be headed to Hamilton when his season is over, as Brown got upset in the ECAC playoffs but could be in the frozen four (i think they will be due to their regular season record)

I did an article for habsworld.net where I brought up the idea of us signing this kid cause he's got a lot of skill. I hope it's true, but there's nothing offical yet.

There is a bit more information about Yann Danis in the article. Basically it says that he's signed through the 2005/2006 season and that the terms of the contract were not disclosed (I might be wrong with my choice of words though :p ).

Team definately needs goaltending insurance in the minor pros. I'm all for signing goalies as free agents rather than using high draft picks on them. they are so unpredictable. Of the top drafted goaltenders in recent years, only Roberto Luongo is justigfying his selection.

Very crafty move by BG, from what I've read Danis has been courted by quite a few teams.

I don't know Danis but he can't be worst as Michaud, Fichaud and Damphousse.

Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!! wow, for those of you who don't know anything about Danis, holy crap is all I can say. I had him as winning the Hoby Baker this year but the end of the season wasn't very kind to him, so I dont think he will win it now. But in the little I've seen of him, he was very good, and has been named the player of the year in the ECAC just like Chris Higgins was last year (well Higgins was Co player of the year with David LeNeavu)

This is big, very big, imo. He's a top ten prospect in my books and becoms our top goalie prospect. I now have to root for Brown to lose if they get a frozen four bid, as I want him in Hamilton right away, but I don't think he can be put on the roster, but he can at least join them in pratice. Great move by Gainey, wow.

So, am I right when I say that he's probably better than Michaud Fichaud and Damphousse?

And, did you see him as a number 2 goaler for the future in a Habs uniform?

Couldn't agree with you more this guy is very mature for a 22 year old and love to play, he is a work horse who has loads of talent with very quick feet for a guy his size. Bob Gainey Rocks!

No, I see him as a #1 and our top goalie prospect. He's very good.

We have a lot of goalies. Does this mean that Garon will be traded at the end of the playoffs (I think his contract is up and he's gonna be looking for more playing time)?
