With the upgrade in defense, and a philosophy change in team defense, we can take the downgrade in goal.

I don' t think that gets Thornton. They actually need a guy with some playoff experience, not saying Jokinen had that bad of a debut, but I doubt thats a guy there looking for.

Pass. We may need a goalie but for that??? Are you kidding me??? We'll trade you Danny Briere, Matt Carle and our 2010 1st for Kiprusoff and then we can sign J-Bo ourselves. We get our goalie, an upgrade on defense, and out from under a bad contract.

Also, if Fernadez can be had for only 2 mil then why wouldn't the Flyers just sign him and keep Hartnell and JVR instead of trading them to you for a 31-yr old goalie??? It really doesn't make much sense from the Flyers stand point if we can just sign Fernadez too does it???

On second thought, since you obviously like to just rip off other teams and believe you guys are the only ones who can sneakily sign a good goalie like Fernandez for 2 mil then it only makes sense for us to give away Hartnell, a player EVERYONE asks for in their trade proposals with the Flyers, and our top prospect. I know, we'll even incluse Sbisa, Giroux and Marshall just to make certain Calg won't back out of the deal and we get our starting goalie of the next 3 years. You know what else, we are obviously in cap hell right so we had better include Carter in the deal too. Ok, now we have this deal right:

Carter, Hartnell, JVR, Giroux, Sbisa and Marshall for Kip, Boyd and Wayne Primeau. That sounds about right.

no deal from philly. flyers take on more than 2 million in salary, which is a non-starter for philly.

Kiprusoff is about as good as Biron, so that wouldn't help the Flyers at all.

I don't necessarily agree with that, but there's no hiding the fact that Kipper has declined in GAA and SV% for the last 3 seasons.

For all of the talk about Biron not being the answer in Philly, he has posted better numbers than Kipper the last 2 seasons, in both GAA and SV%.

Mikka to Philly for JVR and Hartnell is somewhat decent but thats a huge hole in goal. With all due respect to Fernandez, he will not give the Flames the type of goaltending Kipper did. Hartnell and JVR give the Flames two top 6 players and would improve the overall depth on the Flames. I think the Flyers would rather send you Lupul if you want JVR in the deal.

I don't think Langkow is the answer in Buffalo. Roy and Connolly are both there and I don't know how much of an upgrade Langkow is on those two. Langkow has been a decent performer during the regular season but not much better than Roy. If Connolly stays healthy, he is every bit as good as Langkow imo.

The Sharks are not going to trade one postseason underachiever for another. At least Joe is one of the better point producers in the NHL. Aulie and Chucko are decent prospects but not when you're talking Joe Thornton.

Doug Wilson will get fired if he traded Thornton for a crappy roster player, a prospect, and a potential bust. You won't get Jumbo Joe that way.

Same with Jay-Bo and Fernandez. Bouwmeester at six and a half for four years? HA!

You might be able to get James Van Riemsdyk and Scott Hartnell for 2004-vintage Kiprusoff, but the 2009-vintage Kiprusoff would only get you Devin Hartnell and Joe Van Riemsdyk.

Value wise I defintely wouldn't complain if Thornton was traded for Jokinen, a 1st and a prospect, but I just don't think that's what the sharks are looking for.

Especially because Thornton would probably be on a line with two Hart Finalists if him and Iginla were paired up.

My biggest issue is these deals are counter intuitive. We end up dealing for prospects and picks while trading away our own 1st. Also, we trade away forwards and sign d-men. Already enough money tied up on defense.

More importantly Joe Thornton is of little to no value if the Flames are rebuilding. He's also worth little to no value for a team aspiring to achieve anything in the playoffs.

Finally, I don't think the Flames will move Kipprusoff though his stats are on the decline and there are safer picks (like Fernandez, as previously mentioned) who the Flyers should pursue. If their willing to move VanRiemsdyk and Hartnell they could likely get a safer goaltender or younger (i.e Vokoun or Harding).

As a Flames fan...

Wouldn't trade Kiprusoff, Boyd and Primeau for JVR and Hartnell.... if Sutter did that he should be fired. Its a dumb trade for both teams.

Wouldn't trade Langkow for a mid 1st round pick. I don't see how that helps us at all and basically puts Backlund in a very high pressure situation.

I don't think that would be enough to get Thornton and I wouldn't pay what it would take anyway.

Signing Fernandez is a good idea, but only as a backup. Irving is a fantastic prospect, him not being in HFs top 50 is ridiculous, but I would be much happier going into next season with Kipper and McElhinney again than going into it with Fernandez and Irving.

The Flames lost. Our top two defenseman were injured and Langkow and Bourque were just getting their legs back after a long absence. Deal with it! This team has the parts to be a winner, as we saw earlier in the season.

Try to resign Cammalleri and Leopold. Let Aucoin, McElhinney, Bertuzzi, and Eriksson (please god let him go) walk. If we can't get Cammy back, which is likely, we have some young guys that have top six upside (Lundmark, Backlund, Boyd). Bring Pelech and another forward like Greentree up. Hopefully Sutter can sign another solid top 4 defenseman, Bouwmeester would be amazing, but don't get your hopes up. I think he will sign a good backup, maybe Legace.
