Team Z could probably contend in probably Div 2. World Hockey Championships.

also, team Z could probably beat countries like mexico, australia or china. teams like norway or austria would be more challenging for team Z.
My beer league team could probably beat Mexico.

I'd think that Canada Z could easily compete in Top Division.

Hedberg did a great job on these lists.

I think Canada up to around team R would be able to play internationally and not be an embarassment.

Though team U with the Laraque-Belak line

According to Hedbergs lines Canada has on the average their C-team in the World Championships.

That depends on whether the A team gets all the best players or if the best players were spread out over 2 or 3 teams.

I would make a team, just with player who play in Europe. Even if these aren't big names, they'd come in the quarters easily.

I don't think so. The Slovakians who play in Europe are barely stronger, and they've not made the quarters.

That's a tough question since their "A" team didn't compete for a medal of any kind the last Olympics. I doubt B-Z would have fared any better.

You completely missed Brian Elliot. Since you've got Auld at I... I figure he should slot in somewhere around there... no lower than K though.

LOL at E. Staal on your Team C when he's better than everyone on Team B, let alone Mr. No Show Thornton. Burns over Keith and Green? Ward isn't even on any of your teams. I may sound like a homer Canes fan but anyone who's actually watched hockey this year will tell you both are ATLEAST team B quality and are giving Yzerman a reason to bring them in 2010.

I haven't seen Staal click with anyone who looks to be a lock on team A or B on team Canada. And he's not versatile enough to play on a checking line.

Thornton is on the A-team because of his play on the national team and his ability to make himself useful on the international level.

The first three lines on the A-team are interchangable.

Brent Burns was an odd choice, I agree. I was picking between him and Keith, and I figured a BIG righty shot with good two-way play was something that wouldn't look out of place there.

Green just hasn't got that defensive side to him, and is better suited on the B team with a defense-first kind of guy on his pairing.

Ward is soooo streaky and I don't really trust he has the mental strength to play at this level. You could swap him with Turco though, skillwise.

Presumably, there would have to be several NHL-related plane crashes for that to happen!

Except that no show Joe shows for Team Canada.

Looks like there could be 3-4 Canadian teams with a chance to win gold at best on best tourney. A lot of the others would be Q-Finalists. Maybe the V-Z teams would struggle a bit to qualify to a olympic tourney.
