Ernie Russell had 14 goals in 7 cup games against tough competition. He had 17 more in 4 games against poor competition (Ottawa Vics 1908, berlin 1910, New Glasgow 1907)

Still, 2 goals per game is fantastic.

If you do that with every superstars between 1900 and 1920, Russell would probably end up very close to the top of the list.

I want the trail! But it's tough to justify putting 800$ for it. It's crazy they don't re-run it

Riley Hern is a really good pick, I thought long and hard about making him my back-up as well.

And I did do that for many superstars of that time. See the bottom of my Phillips bio. You can probably figure out who most of the * names are. I made a mistake with Russelll; I coulted a game against Berlin where he got 4 goals that I shouldn't have counted, but the thread is closed now and I can't edit it.

Thank Goodness Harry Oliver got picked. It would have been a shame if he wasn't.

So if LL is truly "offline for a week", do we actually have to wait for him?

Because that would be super lame.

With the 672nd (and last) pick of the draft the Montreal Canadiens select Marc Tardif, LW.

As a Leafs fan, I could certainly recommend three credible spares for his team. And he'd be pretty happy with them, too.

i think we should give LL the three highest draft picks he's made before that are still available (he's picked some leafs before that haven't gone this draft - THOSE should be the guys!)

that's if we can't wait one week to do discussions and assassinations - but shouldn't we have one week of discussions and reflections?

we could make the voting day for divisional regular season rankings one week from now (next wednesday)... LL should be back by monday eh?

Nice pick.

Hern was the other goalie I was trying to decide between for my back-up. I couldn't find much difference between him and LeSueur, and went with the guy with the slightly cooler name from Ottawa (a hometown of mine, so-to-speak).

Hern is rated quite highly in Kevin Allen and Bob Duff's book ranking the top goalies all-time in 2002. I think he was around 30th and LeSueur around 40th.

I fully agree with this. I haven't looked at his lineup and what spots need to be filled but I imagine the last three should be just spares. If we get him two forwards and a defenseman that he's had before (because he does pick the same guys every time) then he should be satisfied.

I would wait before choosing any player for LL (or Wisent). I'd say make the regular season vote Thursday the 21st. On tuesday the 19th, people would be able to start sending their results. So if Monday the 18th LL or any other GM's havn't complete their squad, only then would be the time to complete it for them. But I would guess he would be around before then.

According to the Division Rivalry Thread, LL still needs a fourth line LW, and two spare parts. Barnes is listed as a 13th forward on that page. Barnes did play some LW. (In fact, his best offensive year was as the LW on a line with Francis and Jagr).

I'd rather see LL given a chance to finish off his team. I don't think it hurts anyone allowing it to wait. It's the last three picks of the draft. So what if we wait until he gets back? If he hasn't made his picks by the time we're ready to start voting, then assign him players. (Just don't give him his fourth line LW from ATD 6).

If we are going to assign him players now, we should give him the chance to change those three players, if he so desires.

That's not a bad idea, however, then those players essentially become "ATD Burn Cards" and they would be ineligible for the MLD. I hate to see good players go to waste.

I don't recall there being a rule that would rule out guys dropped in the ATD from playing in the MLD. I can't see why a rule like that would exist.

If it is going to be an issue, then give LL until the last possible second to make up his picks. I think he deserves at least that much.

Yes, there was. I made it and presented reasons in detail. The upshot is, if someone else runs the MLD this time, then there's no need for the rule, you can do away with it.

It's not going to be you?

I can't imagine he would've ever moved Joliat or Morenz out of their natural positions.

I've a very busy summer. Definitely takes more time to run a draft well than to simply manage a team. You'd be a great candidate for summer MLD commish 70's. (I definitely look forward to running the winter version of the MLD next January - not as much on my plate that time of year).

Of course I'll manage a team. If my summer gets real busy I'll still be able to send shortlists every couple of days.

Didn't answer this earlier... but yeah, we need to have, at the very least, a week for analysis and discussion. If not, what are we doing this for?

I like the rule. If you're drafted, you're drafted.

However, if we're going to wait this long before voting, let's just not take anyone for LL, then we don't have to execute this rule.

I'll consider being a co-commish. I doubt I can do it all myself. I don't have a busy time of year, but I'm fairly busy all year. A lot of the time I spend on here, is from work. I use my lunch hour to read and write replies and occasionally throughout the day go in to see what's been said and paste in short replies if I can. But doing co-commish duties puts me in a position where my web browser is open and visible far too often... It might seem like I'm here all the time, but I'm not always here.
