Flames-Isles

Just a minor trade.

Isles Recieves:

Wayne Primeau
Jim Vandermeer
Adam Pardy
5th round pick

Calgary Recieves:

3rd round pick

Why Flames do it:

Calgary dumps Primeau and Vandermeers salary.

Why Isles do it:

Pick up a young physical defenseman in Pardy. Pardys potential is probably a decent #4 defenseman. As well as bridges the gap for some of their younger Defense prospects with Vandermeer.

I'm very confused as to why Calgary would want to dump this much salary for a marginal return. It's almost negative value, even with the dump.

Looking for JayBo or something?

The Flames will right up close to the cap next season, so they'll need to part with salary. Vandermeer and Primeau are the most logical candidates to be traded or waived.

As for the OP, I don't know why the Flames would deal Pardy. I guess he would be the carrot in order to get the Islanders to bite on taking Primeau's and Vandermeer's contracts.

Pass.
Isles want to be in position to take on a salary dumped, top 6 scorer. Not 3-4 lower line players.

Obviously, the Islanders have concerns about the remaining 12 years of injured goaltender Rick DiPietro's contract because of uncertainty about the health issues that limited him to five games last season. But DiPietro's annual salary of $4.5 million still leaves them plenty of flexibility. Other teams are locked in at higher prices for star players and might have to shed salary over this summer and next summer to position themselves to get under the cap.

That should provide Snow with an opportunity to pluck a quality player or two down the road in trade or by a free-agent signing. With a strong draft this June and some careful planning, the Islanders can be in a much stronger position for the 2010-11 season. But even with the No. 1 pick coming in this summer, they also must consider the economy before taking any plunges on free agents for the 2009-10 season. Most likely, that will mean another year of building from within.

Really due to defensive depth in the organization, i see Pelech and Negrin with much higher potential, as well as Aulie in a year or two. And then yes either make a run at Bouwmeester, or a Beachemin.

Why did you pick the Isles to take your salary dumps? They're not exactly in a position to do so.

Ugh...Adam Pardy is an NHL ready d-man who will play 15 mins a game next year, and do it effectively. Hell no.
