BB is still the head of everything. It's a team effort.

On the Sweden-Czech first intermission they said he's gonna do a Brunnstrom and visit cities to see which he likes the best. So forget the idea of him signing right after the tournament is over...

That shouldn't take long. I hope we get him, but I'm to the point where I just want a freakin' answer.

One thing I don't get it how Dallas may be in his plans. I mean, I know it's a culture shock for any European coming over but out of all places Texas? It just seems a little strange regardless of what each teams goalie situations are.

Worked for Brunnstrom.

We better start hoping for some warm weather that day.

I thought Texas was an attractive option because they have low taxes?

tbh i think we can offer him alot, just because we're not in the playoffs doesnt mean he wont sign with us. look at the moves we've made, we are making progress and burke is showing his commitment to the rebuild

If I were in his shoes the only places that could sway me to anything but Toronto would be LA, Florida or Tampa - you get the weather, and the women

If it's women he's after, I don't think he'd bother leaving Sweden in the first place.

I hope so, i just want the worlds to be over so we can finally find out where he's going. If he signs elsewhere i'd go after Latvia's goalie - Masalskis, he played extremely well yesterday against us.

hmmm...I see that he is born March 31, 1980, 5'10 and 165 pounds...not the typical goalie in the new NHL
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2090

....the other guy you mentioned earlier in this thread, Alex Salak from Czech Republic sounds better longterm...born Jan 5, 1987, 6'1 190
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=11137

Two others are who may be more ready:
Jacob Stepanek born June 20, 1986 and 6' 160 lbs. playing well for Czech Republic at these World Championships....top goalie in his league this year.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=15840

Pekka Tuokkola born Oct 22, 1983 and 6'1 203 and in recent HF article on Goalies from Finland it inferred that he could be signed by an NHL team after his just completed breakthrough season.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=7600

Any comments regarding NHL potential on these guys would be appreciated....
I imagine most teams have scouting reports on all these guys....

Sportsnet: Gustavsson to shorten NHL wish list

Hey guys,

Sportsnet is reporting today that Jonas Gustavsson will finalize a short list of three NHL teams for which he will play once the world hockey championship concludes in Switzerland.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...stavsson_list/

Quote:
Swedish goaltender Jonas (The Monster) Gustavsson will finalize a short list of three NHL teams for which he will play once the world hockey championship concludes in Switzerland, sources tell Sportsnet.

Dubbed the The Monster for his play in the Swedish elite league, Gustavsson, along with agents Par Larsson and Joe Resnick, are planning to visit two or three cities to help finalize a decision.

While Toronto remains an odds-on favourite to land Gustavsson, sources say a dark horse team that has emerged in all of this is the Vancouver Canucks.

With Roberto Luongo's current contract expiring in 2010, the Canucks may feel they'll need to shore up some depth in goal in the event they end up losing their star netminder to unrestricted free agency.
In my opinion, one of the following three teams will eventually sign Jonas Gustavsson:

Dallas Stars

Toronto Maple Leafs

Vancouver Canucks

What do you think?

with Robbie L playing 81 games a year I doubt he goes there
Dallas has Turco

it only make sense to come to Toronto if he wants to play

The Czech goalie Stepanek looked very impressive against Sweden. Not as impressive as Gustafsson looked but he is 2 years younger and also undrafted.

Turco is in the final year of his contract and had a tough season on an injury riddled squad. Turco will be 34 when the season begins and it would make sense to lessen his workload. If you're Dallas, it's probably a good idea to get an heir apparent in place as they don't really have any in house options.

Seems like the situation as Toronto would offer. Become the primary backup with the intent of getting your feet wet and become the starter in 2010.

There is a recent interview with Burke on the Leafs site and his attitude wasn't one of real confidence after meeting with Gustavsson in Switzerland, more like he could only wait and see what will happen and that there are a number of teams in the running.

That was a really annoying interview. He's probably thinking 'jeez, is this the kind of scrutiny I'm going to face if I go to toronto? Hell with that!'
