Hrm, about the same price that Marchment went for last year. Net trade from earlier in the year comes out to be Battaglia, Johansson, and Chris Bahen (who?) for Konowalchuk and Boughner.

Colorado sure is loading up on right handed defenseman. I think they'll possibly have 4 of their top 6 D as right handed shots now.

Acc. to the Avs site, Bahen is a kid they drafted out of Clarkson in 2000.
I have no idea where he has been playing this year.

Good deal for Carolina, I guess. Is he an UFA? They got back more than they gave for him, anyway.

Good value for the Hurricanes.

This is a great pickup for Colorado. Boughner's a heart and soul guy. This might be one of those trades that doesn't get a lot of media but turns out to be more valuable than some of the big name trades (See Steve Thomas last year)

It looks like he's been playing in Germany this year. 30 GP, 4 A, 38 PIM.

What is a Chris Bahen?

The Avs still have little to trade for their almost, annual blockbuster, this might be as good as the Avs get.

I would've bet money he was going to New Jersey. Guess I would've looked pretty stupid now

The cost for d-men in the East is gonna be much more now (assuming Wesley and Hill won't be traded). I'm glad the Sens picked up Simpson when they did.

Good trade for the Avs.

So does this mean Martin Skoula is now the 7th defensemen?

Where would they add a blockbuster? Who do you replace? The only forward position where they could do better right now is getting another two way checking center with some faceoff ability. The backup goaltending might need addressed but shouldn't be costly. Adding Boughner leaves Skoula or liles riding the pine when Blake comes back

avs overpay. boughner was worth maybe a 4th since guys like weinrich went for a 5th and timmander went for a 7th. avs gave up a top three pick in the 3rd round which is almost like a low low 2nd rounder and a mediocre prospect. i don't think this was necessary. but their defense is amazing now tho

Blake - Foote
Morris - Skrastin
Liles - Boughner
odd man out = skoula

something tells me Skoula might be traded

Yes! I love this deal! Great move by Lacroix, he addressed a need and didn't give up too much. I guess this should silence the Gonchar rumours. I love you Lacroix!

I think you grossly underestimate Boughner. Comparing his value to that of Weinrich or Timmander? Boughner is the solid stay-at-home, pay the price d-man that every team loves to have. He is a legitimate top 4 in the NHL. The only reason he didn't bring back even more is the fact that he makes $3 million per year and is UFA at seasons end.

perhaps they overpaid but how many teams were looking to add Boughner and what did they offer? I read somewhere Lacroix offered a second for Bob when he was in Calgary and was snubbed. He got his guy, it filled a hole. More importantly, they didn't give up Florida's second rounder to get it done.

Now if I could just get Pierre somehow to swing a Skoula for Sundstrom deal I'd be happy.

Boughner is a UFA, and this is most likely just a playoff rental as I doubt the Avs re-sign him....look for Skoula and Liles to alternate as 6th until next year.

All things considred, seems like a reasonable deal. Solid D-man to Avs and Canes get a 3rd and this mid-level prospect. Although I also don't know what a Chris Bahan is.
