He sure won't be playing in the AHL. I believe he could still play in Sweden; am I wrong?

Does this mean Bouwmeester won't be signed?

this changes nothing, it's just the first step.

I doubt erik is in the NHL next season.
He will likely stay in sweden, though the AHL is now a possibility (it wasnt without a contract).

He'll probably start the year with us, and we'll assess his development from there. Quite frankly, he's very good right now and it would be rather unfair to dismiss the possibility of him playing in the NHL, but at the same time it's far too early to call it a sure thing.

His strength training is going to be everything this summer.

Who's Erik Karlsson?

It's all about Oliver Ekman-Larsson!

I'm starting he's emerging to quickly and won't be available around our pick lol. All jokes asides good signing, glad to get him signed finally. I rather Erik stayed in Sweden and bulked up more before getting a season in the AHL.

He really only needs a healthy 10-15 to break the roster. Campoli is about the same height but weighs 190 pounds.

Erik isn't going to be relied upon in a bone crushing role. He's going to get most of his time on the PP and Offensive zone situations. He's also fast enough to cut off lanes and control the puck off of races.

If he can adapt well enough to the pace of the game and actually handle himself well at the NHL level, then he can probably crack the roster and contribute.

This is all exactly right. He's a Senator next year in my mind - no question. He can be the puck moving D-man who can outrace and out smart forecheckers. He'll take his knocks, but he'll learn from it.

What does he weigh right now? Last I heard he had gone from 160 to closer to 175-180. Does anyone know what his weight is at now?

Foligno packed on 20 pounds last offseason, no reason that Karlsson can't do it as well

We don't want Karlsson to gain like 20 pounds. His game is about speed and agility and putting on weight like that might hurt the way he plays.

I just personally don't think he needs to gain 20 lbs of muscle.

As someone who is 6'0 173 and plays in a league with huge guys it really depends on the type of game you play. His game and style you dont need to weigh alot.

I checked and yeah, he's signed. Your story checks out. In September he'll check into a hotel and we'll check out how well he skates, shoots, passes and checks. Maybe he'll prove that he's ready for the big paycheque. And if he goes back to the SEL, we'll I'm just glad we didn't draft a Czech.

Already started.

I hope he brings much more than the 10 pts in 45 games he got in the SEL if he plays in Ottawa...

10 points in 45 games is respectable for a Defenseman in the SEL. Production in general is much higher in the NHL, and on a team like Ottawa, he would do very well as a PP QB.

That's like 19 points on a 82 game pace and if you add a few secondary assissts that you don't get in the SEL, that might be closer to 25-30 points on the year. It's fairly reasonable for a rookie and he's had pathetic ice-time for a lot of those game, so I'm not worried.

Ok I am officially psyced. But I do have a question about the contract. Will a year be taken off the contract if Karlsson plays in Sweden next year or does it take effect when he joins the Sens?

No, if he plays in Sweden, it doesn't count as a year off his contract.

He can play 9 games for the Senators before his contract comes into effect. If he plays in the AHL, no effect... If he is loaned to Frolunda, no effect. It's 9 (or 10) games you have to play in the NHL before the clock starts ticking on his RFA status.
