Maybe they were both fans of the great Rick Chartraw.

I think it is most likely a coincident. I mean the #27 is pretty common. I could see if it was the #99, or #66 or #88 or #68 or something like that, but....

Perez had 26 for team Russia last year and 42 in camp..I don't think he has a favorite number per se.

Good one mcphee...but seriously, I was thinking it was probably Lucien DeBlois.

and IIRC Higgins didn't like one bit. He would have changed it if his stay up here was a long term one.

No, not Chartraw (lol), not Corson or Deblois, I think more of Frank Mahovlich.

Thinking of numbers, if Kovi is 27 and Kats 47, Perezhogin should take #67, ... and score the winning Conference goal against Laffs!

Frank Mahovlich is the answer to a great trivia question. Who was the last Hab to wear #10 before Lafleur. I answered Bill Collins [ a journeyman player sent to Detroit in the Mahovlich deal]. The truth is that the Big M arrived on the road and they didn't have a #27 jersey for him and gave him Collins' #10 for one game.

I suck in those trivia questions. Maybe I should buy one of those big books about the history of the Canadiens. Anyway, if one day the question is who are the 2 greatest players who weared the #27 jersey for the Habs, the answer will be Mahovlich and Kovalev. The good side of this is that Kovalev is today's history, it's happening now and I like it.

The idol of Perez is Sergei Federov...I'm pretty sure. I don't remember where I read that but I know I read it.
