And some nicer news:

Next wave of talented junior prospects for Edmonton Oilers on their way
Quote:
Martin Marincin, D, Prince George Cougars
Acquired: 2nd round, 46th overall, 2010

After taking the WHL by storm (and surprise) in the first half of the season, Marincin cooled off considerably before closing strong and having a quality, albeit brief, postseason appearance. His 56 points in 67 games as a WHL rookie defenseman were still very impressive, however he was open and candid about the rigors of the long and grinding WHL schedule taking their toll. Marincin is currently skating with the AHL's Oklahoma City Barons as they prepare for the postseason, and while it remains to be seen how much game action he'll get, if any, the experience should serve him well.

There is some debate as to where he will play next season-the AHL or another year in the WHL-however it is clear that he needs to continue to adjust to the length and travel of the North American season, to add more mass to his lanky frame, and to continue to refine the defensive side of his game. Regardless, the Oilers have high hopes for the towering Slovak and he is a key piece of their future moving forward.
Brett Connolly leads skilled CHL group of CHL prospects for Tamp Bay Lightning:
Quote:
Richard Panik, RW - Guelph Storm
Acquired: 2nd round, 52nd overall in 2009

Talented and skilled as any player in the Lightning system, Panik teases followers with glimpses of how good he can be. He burst out of the gates this year, but tailed off considerably to finish with a still respectable 27 goals and 29 assists this season. Comparable in physical talents to fellow Slovak Marian Hossa, he came back from an ankle injury to register a goal and two assists in a first round playoff loss to the Saginaw Spirit.

If the Lightning fail to sign Panik by this June's Entry Draft, he will be eligible to go back into the draft. Expect the Lightning to sign him and move him into the AHL to play against some stiffer competition. Questions have dogged Panik throughout his career, experts struggling curious to explain his inconsistency. Some observers note he looks bored playing against junior talent. Panik is as talented as any player in the Lightning system so it will be quite telling to see what sort of progress he makes if and when he his pitted against better players. Interestingly, instead of immediately signing a tryout contract with the Lightning, Panik has been placed on Slovakia's roster for the International Ice Hockey Championships in Slovakia.
Quote:
Adam Janosik, D - Gatineau Olympiques
Acquired: 3rd round, 72nd overall in 2010

Adam Janosik played with fellow Lightning prospect Richard Panik on this year's Slovakian World Junior Championships team. As an 18-year-old, Janosik was second on the team in scoring notching an impressive five assists in six games. The emergence of Nicolas Deslauriers (LAK) and Mathieu Gagnon on the Olympiques blue line led to split powerplay time this year for Janosik, which lowered his scoring totals from 2009-10. He still managed to record seven goals and 25 assists this season, cementing his reputation as a skilled offensive defenseman.

Blessed with great offensive capability, Janosik can continue to develop next year in the QMJHL. Expect Janosik to add some weight to his frame, and contribute even more offensively as he grows more comfortable with North American hockey. Janosik will likely reprise his leading role on the Slovak Junior team, and is an early favorite to captain the squad. Janosik's hockey abilities rate amongst the best of any defensemen in the Lightning system. Many will be watching to see if he can take the next step forward this upcoming season.

Getting relegated, throwing Čerešňák under the bus, pulling the goalie when it wasn't necessary, this coach should do what is right and send in his resignation.

He should never have gotten that position in the first place IMO.

Im not a fan of Fruhauf, but Ceresnak did make this failure!

and after all, this failure was that, what it is... That is a fact.
Other side, its true, that Fruhauf should take some blame to him. Like Filc did.

But i see another problem. This year relegation will be in the shadows of this year senior WCH. Everybody will speak about this tournament, nobody will care abou U-18 team. And if Slovak will win some medail, it will be much worse.

OMG, where exactly did Filc take the blame on himself? For more than 10 years he´s been spitting at all sides blaming everyone but himself for the state of Slovak hockey while he himself is probably one of the two strongest man in Slovak hockey, (with much more powers than even the president has) which for example includes appointing and approving the juniors NTs coaches and rosters for all junior NTs with many of the players whose parents paid their way in or in some other way got their kdis there and much bigger stuff than this......All Filc can do is talk and right at this stage the biggest favour he probably can do for Slovak hockey is send in hsi resignation.

Undepending on whether Čerešňák did make a mistake or not (and we have nothing other than Fruhauf´s word for this btw), it is very stupid to blame being relegated a division lower on one single player. After last year´s OG bronze medal game can you imagine the coach comming out and singling players out for their mistakes that cost us the medal? Nope. And we´re talking about 30 year old hockey matadors here and not 18 year old and injured kids who are still learning to play hockey and make mistakes all the time. That´s not even mentioning the fact that you could list the coach´s decision with power play as the decisive moment that send us to Division I for 100%.

Oilers agree to terms with Marincin
19-year-old defenceman inks three-year entry-level contract with Edmonton
Monday, 25.04.2011 / 1:35 PM / Transactions
By Edmonton Oilers Press Release

Marincin's career stats & bio
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Martin Marincin on a three-year entry level contract.

Marincin, 19, finished his first season with the Western Hockey League's Prince George Cougars, appearing in 67 games collecting 56 points (14G, 42A) and 65 penalty minutes. He set new rookie defenceman scoring records for the Cougars in goals, assists and points. The Kosice, Slovakia native finished 8th in scoring from a defenceman in the WHL and 1st among all rookie blueliners.

Marincin, 6’5”, 200-pounds, also notched a goal and four assists and had six penalty minutes in four playoff games for Prince George.

At the end of his WHL season with the Cougars, Marincin was assigned to the American Hockey League's Oklahoma City Barons, where he played one game, collecting two penalty minutes.

Internationally he played for Team Slovakia at the 2010 and 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships, appearing in eight games recording two assists.

Marincin was drafted by the Oilers in the 2nd round (46th overall), in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Congrats to Martin

I was just reading the Swiss boards over here and stumbled upon a new feature on eliteprospects.com which show stats for players by nation sorted by a continent they play on.

Edmonton Oilers possess gritty group of prospects at AHL level
Quote:
Milan Kytnar, C, 21

Much like Cornet, it took Kytnar some time to establish himself and his game as an AHL rookie. He found a groove though and settled into more of a checking role, tackling the kind of jobs that make you a coach's favorite. It's likely he'll be back in a similar bottom six/penalty killing role next season, though he's a long way down the NHL call up list at this time.
Mid-round picks and free agent signings dominate CHL prospect pool for San Jose
Quote:
Marek Viedensky, C, Saskatoon Blades
Acquired: 7th round, 189th overall, 2009

The MVP and top scorer for the Blades, “Big V” has had an amazing season to look back on, although the disappointment of failing to reach his playoff goals may have tempered his enjoyment somewhat. Having led the team with 88 points in 63 regular season games, Viedensky scored only once in 10 playoff games as the Blades fell far short of the WHL championship they had set their hearts on. A reliable producer offensively, Viedensky is also a trusted killer of penalties and can be counted on to backcheck effectively. A prospect with his size and skill should have Sharks fans in a lather, however doubts over his skating stride need to be answered before he has success at the next level. Slated for the AHL next season, “V” has been taking in the Sharks playoff run since the Blades exit and enjoying a taste of the NHL flavor that he one day intends to savor.
Big V, really?

Big V, I like that! I loved watching his line with Panik and Tatar at the WJC and I wish they will be reunited again hopefully at the next WC.

Richard Panik signed a 3 year rookie contract with Tampa Bay Lightning. He said he wants to go to the training camp and try to secure him a spot on Tampa's roster. Now that's the attitude!

The U18 Division IA championship will be played in Piešťany ( anyone else seeing the connection to a certain high ranking person at SZĽH?), asides from Slovakia the teams are Norway, Slovenia, Japan, Italy and France.

Why not in the new stadium? or in Kosice. I think, in Kosice the Slovaks will have better boost from crowd...

I don´t think either Steel Arena or Steal Arena () would be such a great choice....too big capacity for such an event....some town with smaller rink and hockey ineterest would be nice though....as if it wasn´t enough that SZĽH is killing Hlinka´s Memorial by having it played in Piešťany or any other youth tournament by playing it in Trnava or some other "hockeytown".....But this SZĽH after all, I´m not surprised.....

Might be interesting for some, an interview with Róbert Švehla about his work with hockey youth in Dukla Trenčín (ofc only in Slovak), starts around the 7th minute in the first video.

I watched the interview. Very interesting stuff, I had entirely forgotten that in his one year with Toronto that part of his salary went to Dukla Trencin. That is class. He had a good year in Toronto too. They offered him 4 million to play for another year and he retired instead.

Anyhow, Tomas Jurco Memorial Cup Champion. I was at the game versus Kootenay, I saw him score using his neck. He had a very good Memorial Cup and playoff, it will be interesting to see where he is drafted. I have a sneaking suspicion that one team will try to beat the others and take him the late first round.

Marek Tvrdon taken in the second round of the KHL draft by the Poprad Lions.

And the Memorial Cup performance has given Tomáš a boost in the rankings as ISS amingst others ranks him back in the 1st round at #25 in their updated Top 30. I know it doesn´t mean that much for his future whether it is first round or second, but it would be fun to have a tiny Slovak part already on Day 1 of the draft.

As for Tvrdoň and the KHL draft, that things is pretty unbelievable, someone from LEv actually claimed that he wants to play in the KHL very much ad that he might even be on the team for next year, while he only found out that he actually had been drafted only when hokejportal sent him an SMS and not even speaking about his existing 3 year contract with the Vancouver Giants. Tomáš Mikúš has also been drafted at #36 by Spartak Moskva.

I wonder whether this means that Martin Reway´s playing in Sparta Praha next year for sure:

Quote:
Q and A with Slovakian Playmaker Martin Reway
Posted by Dan in Interviews

Martin Reway’s Slovakian squad didn’t impress at the recent 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge by going 0-4, but the ‘95-born centre sure did, with a goal and an assist in 3 games. Not that his production should be overly surprising, seeing as how he racked up 35 points, on 13 goals and 22 assists in 20 games this season for his MHC Martin U18 club, before scoring another 5 goals and 10 points in 10 games for the U20 team as well. Last season, while playing with MHK Dolny Kubin U18 in division 2, the 5-foot-9, 165-pound sniper potted an astounding 70 points, on 32 goals and 38 assists in just 26 games. Reway’s offensive skills are truly off the charts, and he is only going to get better, as he isn’t eligible for the NHL Draft until 2013. The speedy Slovak has great hands, unbelievable vision and hockey sense, works incredibly hard at both ends of the ice, has a good shot and can run the point on the powerplay, makes his teammates better with his ability to dish the puck, and is extremely dedicated when it comes to the game of hockey. Despite being small in stature, the dynamic 16-year-old doesn’t shy away from the dirty areas of the ice, and has shown he is more than capable of making an impact against larger opponents. I had the chance to catch up with the ultra-talented Slovakian sniper, for a quick Q and A.

Who has been your biggest influence and help in developing your game thus far?

Martin: I think a lot of the credit goes to Mr. Peter Holaza he is a former player and individual trainer here in Slovakia.

Martin: I think my skating, and ability to make plays and pass the puck are my biggest strengths.

Is there an NHLer you style your game after?

Martin: I dont know, maybe Martin St. Louis.

You have put up a ton of goals over the past few seasons playing with your club teams in the Slovakia, do you have one that stands out as your biggest?

Martin: My first goal in juniors Extraligue, in my first game, I scored the winning goal vs Trencin.

In your opinion, who is the best player you’ve ever played against?

Martin: I am not sure of his name, but I played against one player on the Russia National ‘95 team that was very good. He was a playmaker too.

What was it like this season playing for MHC Martin U20 against older competition as just a 16-year-old?

Martin: It was good, it allowed me to get stronger, and really work on my skills. I have to thank my trainer once again for recommending the move.

Do you plan to develop in Slovakia, or would you like to play junior in North America at some point?

Martin: I am now in Sparta Praha, in the Czech Republic, and i will be playing junior there. The following season, I want to play in the CHL.

What does your summer look like as far as training and hockey is concerned?

Martin: Along with working with my trainer, I will be on the ice lots with Sparta Praha.

Best advice ever recieved?

Martin: Never back down.

First thing you would buy after signing your first pro contract?

Martin: A new big house, and beatiful car.

What is your long-term career goal?

Martin: To play in the Olympics with the National team.

Most embarrassing hockey moment?

Martin: I fell in a shootout once.

If you could have dinner with any 3 people you wanted, who would you pick?

Martin: Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Kane, and Tara Reid.

Most embarrassing song on your iPod?

Martin: “Horehronie” by Kristina

Hmmm interesting, I was very sceptical of his future, but if it's true he will be playing for Sparta next season, well then I just might change my opinion. I hope he can handle this move mentally, because if he is determined to push it even further to the chl after the next season, it's going to be really tough.

So it seems two of our top 2013 prospects (Torok and Reway) will be playing in the czech juniors, interestingly both coming from Martin. Do you guys know anything about Paulovic? Is he going to stay with Topolcany?

Good to see Jurco's results. I've been in favor of the NY Rangers drafting him for a while. I think he has Marian Hossa potential. Similar skill set and he will get bigger in time which will help too.
