Pit - Fla

First time posting a proposal, be gentle.

Just kicking around some ideas while bored at work, came up with this one:

To Pittsburgh: David Booth (signed then traded at $4.0mil)

To Florida: Staal + 3rd rounder + Casey Pierro-Zabotel

Any ideas?

Flame away, jackals!

As much as I'd like to see Jordan on the Panthers, it's hard to give up Booth.

I'd rather trade Horton+.

While it's probably much easier to pry Horton out of there, I would much rather see Booth in a Pens jersey, preferably on Malkin's wing.

Horton seems a bit overrated/over hyped. -shrug-

I admittedly have a very limited knowledge of Booth, but from what I have seen he looks like a damn good fit for any team. A hard working guy who plays with intensity and can find the back of the net often.

I wonder if bumping the pick up to a 2nd would change things?

Its funny because a few months back the Horton for Staal notion was complete anathema to most Cats fans .

I personally think Horton is the more talented guy, but Booth seems to have a much better personality and work ethic.

Don't know if either of those deals are worthwhile for us though. Could well be, but I'm scared of the cap in 10/11.

As much as I love Staal, and wish he could be a Penguin for life, it's just not the best option for the team or Jordan in my opinion.

He will never be anything more than a 3rd line center around here unless he proves he can transition to wing, which he has failed at miserably as of late.

For him to reach his potential, which I think is pretty damn good, he needs to be playing 1st or 2nd line minutes, surrounded by scorers.

The Pens on the other hand need a long-term solution to their winger problem for Crosby. They have a few options on the horizon in Caputi and Tangradi, depending on how they pan out, but I think they would be better suited for Malkin's line.

I think value wise it's pretty good, but It seems like Booth is pretty much untouchable for Panthers fans and could well wear an A next year. Something round Horton and Staal seems very workable but I think I'd rather hold on to Staal for now.

Exactly. That is what the new Panthers brass is looking at when assessing talent...not just untapped potential and star potential like in past years.

Staal would be awesome as a 1B. centre with Weiss. I like the small/big combo there up the middle. If one is not going well, the other probably is because they bring something different to the table. I'm getting tired of Timmy on the Panthers...his leash is short.

I made this proposal a long time ago, but Horton would be more likely to leave Florida than Booth.

Dont think that Booth can be traded. What would that signal to the fan base?

Booth. Goes. Nowhere.

I love Jordan Staal, want to see him center Horton, though. Not sure how to get him here.

Staal and a 2nd for Horton is more feasible.

I don't see why the Pens would have to add to get Horton. Although Horton has the better offensive upside, Staal's defensive ability is why he is so important to the Pens. Also, Staal is a playoff beast and Horton has yet to play in a single playoff game.

I'm a huge Staal fan, but in no way would I call him a playoff beast. He plays well enough for his role, but again, his role is a 3rd line center who is asked to play defensively responsible and not asked to do much offensively.

Why would we trade Staal?

We're 1 game away from the conference finals with him + mostly disappointing FA leftovers on Sid and Geno's wings, and our wing prospect pool looks ready to produce some gems over the next couple years.

Everything's going pretty well right about now. There's no incentive to do anything so drastic any time soon.

So the Pens should get rid of all their defensive players? I guess defense isn't important in the playoffs.
