Montreal gets: Kovalchuk, one of ATL's bad contracts

Atlanta gets: Markov, both Kostitsyns, Gorges, Subban/McDonagh (maybe both), a couple of firsts... how far off am I?
WOW!

Atlanta goes from out of the playoffs to in the playoffs.

And its the other way around for Montreal

I'd rather sign Kovalchuk as a UFA or not at all. No reason to plunder the farm for a year or two of him.

my opinion on these types of players as well. only reason id prefer to do a trade is if my team has to move contracts to afford a player of that caliber.

Funny because I don't see Komisarek, Halak and D'Agostini being a core of the Habs for very long... so it's really just Andrei Kostitsyn for Kovalchuk.

Which is just awful, awful.

I agree, Kovalchuk is UFA after next season....hey lets trade all our young prospects, talent and draft picks for one year with a superstar, thats stupid

I would say that this may be a tad of an underpayment for Kovalchuk. we should add Pacman,Higgins ,Price and fischer ,Weber.

If the focal point of the deal is Komisarek, then Atlanta waits until July 1st. If Atlanta is willing to pay 4-5M for 4 yrs, then they'll probably beat out all of the other shoppers. Pavelec is only 20 and has the potential to be better than Halak and with Atlanta's glut of young offensive prospects combined with a top 5 pick this year, they can easily do without A.Kost and MaxPac or D'Agostini... not to mention they keep their franchise player in Kovalchuk.

And how will the Habs ice a full roster next season if they trade everyone for Kovy and Vinny?
