He is coming off a bad year (but I think its a fluke as every single player on his team had an off year...blame coaching...)
Ottawa could use a GOOD top 6 winger to replace him, as well as a young blue chip prospect or top 5 pick in this years draft..

Reasons for trade.. Ottawa could be tight on cap room if it drops (although I bet Ottawa won't be in HALF the trouble half the league will be in if it does.. The Islander's could use a bonified Superstar on their Ice.. They need something to bring fans back and Heatley could do that, otherwise I could see the franchise go the way of Phoenix..
Ottawa needs a slight VERY quick rebuild. Personally I wouldn't call it a rebuild, but a slight make over.. This would refresh the Ottawa talent pool as well as giving them back a winger who is not as good as Heatley, but is cheaper and can still score goals.. Looking at the Los Angeles perspective Kopitar + Heatley could be a dynamite combination...

and we dont need a rebuild we need to retool our prospect pool so that players can step in and add more depth, we just need a few more drafts like last year and we should be in fine shape since we will have some nice cheap rookie contracts

LA has like 23 dollars tied up in salary next year.
Our goal would be to get another 1st line player to play with Hemsky. Not trade our only first line player for another first line player. The Oilers have great young players and prospects. Surely there is another deal that could be made.

That's the problem with Edmonton. They don't have great prospects. They have some good ones. Hemsky is their only top line player and they don't have a true number 1 defenceman. So there really isn't a deal that could be worked out that omitted Hemsky. Eberle is considered unanimously Edmonton's best prospect right? And I would doubt he has a higher ceiling than say Foligno with 60 points both of their ceilings, playing a similar style. Edmonton has neither great young players or prospects. They have very good players but no great ones.

I would do the 1st one in a heartbeat. Allows us to sign a Bouwmeester/Hossa/Havlat player, and gets us JT and Okposo, both of whom would be top 6 forwards. NYI wouldn't even consider that.

Stupid Heatley comes to my Kelowna to drink with his hockey buddies and destroy his body, then he comes to training camp completely out of shape and screws the season away.
