Ovechkin knee hit on Gonchar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwxTrxESWjI

Accident?

Looks like Gonchar tries to jump out of the way here.

Not good for either player.

...

I'm a big Ovechkin fan... But that didn't look like an accident to me.

I think Ovie regretted it right away. One of those plays that happens too fast.

Anyhow a little karma thrown back into the face of Ulf defenders in Pittsburgh...

yeah, that to me looked like Ovechkin already had the knee bent trying to stop and turn hard and put his body between gonchar and the puck and unfortunatlely the knee caught gonchar before a shoulder did. Not intentional imo, or at least no intent to injure.

Looks ok to me. Incidental contact as best.
This is the 2nd time though that Ovie really tried to nail him.

I love OV, but I hate that play.

Gotta be better than that.
Not a good hit.

It was about as clean as Samuelsson's hit on Neely. Gonchar is done for the playoffs.

I'm sure the Caps know how important Gonchar is to the Penguins as their best offensive defenseman. Maybe the Habs like Kosto and Komi thought of Hunwick in that way. After all two Habs went out of their way to attempt to injure Hunwick. It's similar to other teams forwards making sure they hit Wideman every chance they get.

Reckless but not intentional. Ovechkin makes the greatest villain though.

I'd agree if it were Crosby or Malkin.

Ovechkin is gonna have to live this one down. I'd say accident if he didn't catch Wideman in almost the same way.

This.

It's not like this is the first time AO has gotten somebody like that. I doubt he was trying to hurt him, but he was trying to hit him, and it was careless, and unnecessary.

Gonchar moved, but I would not say "jumped". AO goes for the highlight hit without thinking of the end result a little too often for my taste.

I dunno, it's iffy for me. It didn't look to me like Ovechkin led with his leg like he was trying to knee him. It looked like he leaned in to make the hit, Gonchar tried to jump out of the way, and they hit knees. It was bad on Gonchar's end cause Ovechkin had all the momentum going for him and Gonchar was off balance. Didn't really look intentional to me.

I love ovechkin but he is not the cleanest player the in league by any stretch. Most of his big hits he leaves his feet or elbows, and its never called. This isnt the first time he's had knee to knee hits either, wideman earlier in the year could have done serious damage, and i think there have been similar hits as well (cant remember the player but i'm pretty sure there was a similar play in a game against tampa). He plays the game with passion but he needs to relax a little with some of the dirty hits

It was pretty similar to his knee on knee hit on Wideman earlier this year. Obviously this one was much worse, but I'd consider him a repeat offender.

Not as serious as originally thought. Gametime decision for game 5.

I really like Ovechkin but I agree with the poster above about OV's hits.

A lot of them he CHARGES from Center Ice to make and the majority, especially against the boards, he jumps...

I don't think he really tries to injure someone; he just plays with a lot of excitement and gets really carried away when he's playing the game (ie. goal celebrations)

He didn't argue much here which makes me think that, while not intending to really injure Gonchar, he did mean to do something, and made a mistake by keeping that leg that far away from his body while going by Gonchar...anyone who plays/played hockey knows it's pretty easy to sneak a knee in and then defend it as unintentional...

It was dirty, for some reason he only gets a minor for it. Gonchar was injured and probably won't be back for the rest of the series, yet it's only a minor? He pulled the same crap on Wideman.

I don't get why evryone likes this guy. If I wanted to watch some arrogant pompas ass act like a complete tool I would watch the NFL.
