Ponikarovsky

23 goals

61 points

A big winger that plays with an edge, is defensively responsible and has reached the 20 goal plateau in 3 of his last 4 seasons. Could compliment a star #1 center, or could round out a good second line.

Signed at 2.1 for next year, a reasonalble price, could be packaged with another player to bring in some quality young guys or more draft picks. As much as I would hate to see this guy not wearing the blue and white, I could only imagine what he could do playing alongside a guy like Sid the Kid.

Doesn't play with that much of an edge. He's worth more than Moore, who got a 2nd rounder, but not more than Antropov, who also got a 2nd rounder. So, a 2nd rounder?

Maybe just keep him and move him at the deadline if he can't be re-signed.

He showed a lot of chemistry with Grabovski-Kulemin at the end of last season, so maybe they continue that.

But maybe he can be packaged with a 2nd for a late 1st or higher 2nd.

I've been liking this idea for a while:

To TOR: 5th overall
To LA: Ponikarovsky + 7th overall

I don't mind getting either of Kane, Schenn, or MSP. Even Cowan (although he doesn't fit a need). This is, of course, all contingent on the idea that Burke really wants someone (Schenn probably), and the idea that Lombardi doesn't really care one way or another. Unfortunately, Schenn is probably the most Lombardi-type player in that top 7 and he's pretty headstrong about who he wants.

Ponikarovsky to Nashville for Cody Franson.

Nashville needs cheap bodies for the top 6, and the crowded blue-line will make it difficult for a guy like Franson to see the ice time he deserves.

Looking at 2008 draft where Leafs moved from #7 to #5 too, is Poni worth high 2nd and 3rd round picks?

I think that he is worth a high 2nd and a 3rd... He is extremely undervalued. He's been improving after every season, and Still hasn't hit his Prime IMO. He was a 60 point player while given 2nd line minutes this season. He's also been a great person in our lockerroom, and helped Grabovski and Kulemin a lot with the English Language and the North American Cultured. I would love to see Poni stay in the blue and white.

That said, I think that the 7th+Ponikarovsky for the 5th is a very good deal for both teams.

Clearly he is worth a high 1st rounder, top prospect and a good young roster player.

That means the leafs will get a 2nd for him.

It's a fair deal for both sides in my opinion .

Ya I think thats what we'd get for him, sadly. I think that there may have been a deal at the deadline with Nashville for their 2nd but it didnt go through in time. That could be the rumour.

Honestly, if thats all we could get for him, Id keep him. He puts up good numbers and plays well in both ends, so he would be worth more to the leafs than if he was traded.

I like this one. I said before the deadline that the two teams should work out a deal involving Ponikarovsky and Klein.

IMO, the two teams are perfect trading partners. A lot of defensive depth on Nashville, with Toronto having the big-bodied winger Nashville could use.

Obvioulsy, picks would be welcomed too, especially a second rounder, I honestly feel he would be too much to give to move up from 7th to 5th, but I suppose if it were an additional 2nd to move up it would cancel out anyways.
