OT: New group looking to move Thrashers to Hamilton

Wow...

Looks like the Hammer has become a hockey hotbed, without even having an NHL team. TSN also reported that at least FIVE different suitors have shown interest in moving an NHL club to Hamilton.

"A second group has emerged that wants to move an ailing NHL team to Hamilton, in this case the Atlanta Thrashers, according to media reports.

The Hamilton Spectator has learned Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger plans to meet representatives of the group, which is headed by Vancouver developer Tom Gaglardi and includes former NHL owner Nelson Skalbania, as soon as Monday. Eisenberger and the city are already negotiating with Jim Balsillie for a lease at Copps Coliseum as part of the BlackBerry billionaire's legal fight with the NHL to buy and move the Phoenix Coyotes to Hamilton.

...

Gaglardi, who is president of Northland Properties, a family-owned company that operates a chain of hotels and restaurants, is said to want to move the Thrashers to Hamilton by the 2010-11 season."

which Hamilton....New York? Virginia? Ohio?...if its Hamilton, NY than I will protest. Do they really need 3 hockey teams? That would make like 50 pro sports teams in the 4 major sports alone for NY

You are joking right?

I'd love to see a team in Hamilton, good blue collar city I'm sure they would have some great fans. I doubt the Maple Laughs will be ok with the idea, and will probably complain that a team in Hamilton would steal from their market, the Sabres too. F 'em I say, it would great for Canada to have a 7th team.
